A delightful medium sized cafe on the European banks of the Bosphorous. There is a good variety of food on offer, both Turkish and international, and their salads are particularly good as is their chocolate-almond cake.
One of the nicest times to visit this cafe is between 5 and 7pm in summer when you can watch the sun setting over the Bosphorous and the sea ferry's travelling across it.
Just for information, Ask (pronounced Ashk) means love in Turkish.
Its on the city's beach road next to the Makro centre
Cuzco can be cold in the evenings. But fear not, locals have come up with a cure. A hot glass of creamy Ponche de Leche with Pisco warms the parts other drinks cannot reach.
Perhaps the best place to enjoy this speciality is in the eccentric little place on the Plaza de Armas, alongside the Cathedral. Pretty much all they serve are Ponches de Leche, pastries, and some left-wing politics in the shape of huge Soviet posters.
A great place to warm up, wind down, and actually experience a bit of authentic Cuzco.
Many places, but Plaza de Armas is best
Such great and unusual sandwiches on delicious ciabatta bread, you can forgive them the use of the ubiquitous “I-word” in the name.

Sonic on the Rocks in Kaikoura is the most atmospheric restaurant we have ever been to. Eating superb pizzas beside a log fire overlooking the moonlit still Pacific Ocean is an experience we'll never forget. In fact we loved everything about this wonderful town and stayed on long after we had seen the whales.

Two hour lunch cruise on Bateaux Parisiens, wine included, €50-70 per person. We chose the €70 option and had a table at the front of the boat, good quality food, good wine, excellent service and serenaded. What more do you want?

Relax after a walk in the beautiful hillside or start your day with a big glass full of delicious curd served with as much runny honey as you want
Situated on the little main road through Ella just where the bus drops you off
A lively bar / restaurant / cafe right on the beach with extremely friendly staff serving amazing tuna steak with chips, great big pots of tea and mmmm lemon juice. Beach parties on Saturday nights - buy a bottle of Arrack and enjoy the spectacular sunset.
Just walk down the beach to where all the people are!
A wonderful restaurant and hotel set right on the beautiful golden sands of Pantai Cenang. The food is delicious with a great fusion of Asian and European tastes. The cocktails are fantastic. I especially recommend the jug of frozen Margharita. Perfect to watch the sun go down. This place is so beautiful, afterwards I strolled out to the beach with my girlfriend and proposed to her. We are getting married in Malaysia this year!

I don’t recommend anyone to go anywhere near this "housing development". Taxi drivers won't take you there and the police only go there in extreme cases, usually by the dozen (of vans), but on Sundays there´s a great market in "The Alameda de Hercules". Try the food in Los Robles (calle Argote de Molina), it’s not cheap, but the food is great.
On Thursdays there´s a street market called “El Jueves”. On Wednesdays they put a sign on the church door which says "tomorrow is Thursday", just in case you forgot it's Wednesday.
Some things may have changed in the 20 years since I lived there but the art school dance goes on forever. Avoid if possible La plaza de la Pulmareja, which is close to La Macarena, but try to visit La Plaza de San Romanand and the bar of the same name. They have a blackboard which counts down the days to La Madrugá, the night between Thursday and Good Friday when the Cristo de Los Gitanos goes out for a walk. I once saw and heard Cameron de la Isla singing Saetas there, spinechilling.
c/ Argote de Molina is one minute from the cathedral
Fantastic restaurant in Civitella Marittima. Never had a better meal in a more beautiful place.
In Civitella Marittima, 35km south of Siena, Tuscany, the village where we rent a vacation rental and where we will most certainly go back next year.
I stayed four nights in San Francisco in September and ate at a lot of great places. However Alfred’s stands out for a number of reasons. My guidebook recommended it as the best steak house in San Francisco. However not only is it great steak, it’s a very lovely old-fashioned romantic restaurant. It’s full of red velvet banquettes, large tables with white linen and white aproned waiters.
I had the 14oz (that’s the smallest they did) sirloin with mash and my boyfriend had the Porterhouse 20oz, which is a speciality - he could only manage half as it literally took up the whole plate. The bar is also lovely to have your coffee or for a pre-dinner drink - they specialise in single malts.
659 Merchant Street, it's located between the financial district and Chinatown on Market and Kearny and is not really near any other restaurants so you'll have to look hard. My taxi driver didn't know it so make sure you take a map; tel: 415 781 7058; www.alfredssteakhouse.com/
A genuinely French restaurant, that is excellent value for money.
Opposite Olympia Theatre, near Dublin Castle
Casa del Papa, located on the outskirts of the city, is loosely themed on Ernest Hemingway’s life. And so you have an American Bar upstairs, a Cuban Club in the cellar, and in between a canopy-covered restaurant serving a mix of Spanish and African cuisine. Quite where the tiramisu fits is anyone’s guess, but one taste and you won’t be inclined to complain. Dance off those calories in the salsa club, enjoy the cocktails, and party until the bell tolls for you.

A great bar for Sunday afternoon jazz (4pm – 7pm). There’s also excellent, cheap food served through the week from 7pm.

This Vietnamese and Thai restaurant is the perfect setting for a romantic meal. The decor is beautiful and tasteful, the food is absolutely delicious and there is a comprehensive wine list. It is also right in the heart of the old town making a walk there at night really picturesque. What really makes it though is the service, which is personal without being over-attentive; we found it by accident one year and paid another visit 12 months later and were amazed when the staff remembered us. Definitely worth a visit to Amsterdam alone.

Stylish waterfront shopping, eating and entertainment complex next to Bayfront Park. Some excellent restaurants, especially seafood, and classy individual shops and boutiques alongside some familiar big-chain favourites (Gap, Disney Store etc).
