    Guilin Park

Posted by DaveParrish 5 August 2008

Guilin Park provides a haven of tranquility in this busy city, ideal for spending a quiet hour between business meetings and experiencing an authentic tourist-free Chinese park. It's a beautiful place where you can walk in peace, sit sipping green tea, or watch people practice tai chi in the mornings. It's located in a suburb about 20 minutes by taxi from the Bund.

Address: No. 128 Guilin Road (E), Shanghai, Zipcode: 200233

If you are like me and wake up with lots of energy, then there is nothing better than getting up with sunrise and popping to Central Park to have a morning wake up jog. Remember that New York can be freezing in the winter months so it's probably best left until the summer. You won't be the only one who will be there so get your gear on and off you go.

Best if you stay in a hotel nearby central park

    Central Park Reservoir

Posted by WilliamW 2 December 2007

A running track (1.58 miles) follows the edge of the reservoir (now officially the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir) and lets you experience the same views as Dustin Hoffman in the opening sequences of Marathon Man - the skyline of buildings that surround the park.

No worries about muggers - forget those scenes from Death Wish - you'll always have the company of other runners, even in the snow.

The reservoir is located in Central Park between 86th and 96th

    Climb every mountain

Posted by onlyagame 12 February 2007

With apologies to Julie Andrews, as far as mountain climbing for beginners goes there's nun better than Skiddaw with its natural route clearly visible.

It's a steep climb, but persistence will deliver some amazing views. There are no ropes, pickaxes or on-all-fours required, although be prepared for a slight feeling of shame as runners often jog past.

Take a child and pretend you are going at their pace.

Follow the signposts on the A591 and you'll soon be on the simplest way up Skiddaw.

    Jardin du Luxembourg

Posted by carey 15 October 2005

A beautiful ornimental park to take a run in along with many chic (and often skinny) Parisien runners, before breakfast.

A wonderful place to walk, do tai chi, sunbathe and picnic on the many metal chairs. I can spend hours in this park it's also great for children with sand pits, toy sailing boats for hire and a huge (pay-in) playground. Not to mention a couple of reasonably good cafes to take coffee or lunch.

Jardin du Luxembourg, boulevard Saint-Michel, 75006 Paris, France

Directions for Visiting: Rue de Vaugirard, Metro Luxembourg

    Running track in Botofogo

    Posted by Mike65 16 September 2005

This seemingly endless running and cycle track in Botofogo is great around 4:30/5pm as the sun goes down or early in the morning. All ages and sizes venture there and it doesn't matter what apparel you walk, jog, sprint in. You move in between trees and past the beach to a perspective- changing view of Sugarloaf mountain that will be on your right. Makes you feel better after slumming it all day on the beach. And, yes, it is safe.
