A trout, pike and coarse fishery, Esthwaite Water is a completely natural lake with stocked with Rainbow Trout. At over 280 acres you can find a quiet spot even during peak seaon. The Pike fishing season lasts all winter and the largest caught was 38lb!

When heading north out of Kerikeri most people will turn off to visit or camp at Matauri Bay. This place is fantastic for swimming, fishing, walking and diving amongst other activities. But make sure you follow the road around to the next bay for a visit. Te Ngaere Bay is a quieter and more secluded area which has lots to offer. There's easy access for boats so it's a great place to go fishing, kids will enjoy the rock pools for exploring and the beach is perfect for swimming. Allow a full day to properly enjoy the surroundings.
An enchantingly atmospheric chateau, unspoilt by renovations, gave us a fabulously relaxing stay in the Dordogne coupled with a well organised range of activities from kayaking to guided walks and hang gliding to horse riding. Lots of supervised activities for the kids and gentler ones for us! Would definitely go again.

I never would have believed it, so had to try. Bangkok has some crazy fishing. I went with a UK tour operator and in just five days had four fish over the 100lb mark. The fishing combined with the brilliant food, weather and nightlife. Not to be missed!
Last summer, for the first time, we hired a boat and went sailing. As Sardinians living in London we go to the island quite often but we had never hired a boat before.
We started from Cagliari and drove for one and a half hours to Portovesme where we caught a ferry to Carloforte, a small town in the island of San Pietro, 45 minutes from Sardinia. We also boarded our car and the trip was quite comfortable.
On arrival, we unloaded the car and parked it near the harbour, easy peasy! Man, that boat was something.
The morning after the real fun started, we sailed for most of the morning and the views of Carloforte and Sardinia's south-west coast were just there, like a precious frame for a priceless painting, my sea.
We stopped just on a side of Pan di Zucchero, a stunning huge surfacing rock in front of Masua bay, and stayed there swimming and diving and snorkeling.
We stayed two days more, going to hidden bays very early in the morning or during the night, fishing etc. It has been an unforgettable experience and I will definitely do it again and suggest it to the readers.
I've put more details and driving directions in our blog.

If you are in Rio de Janeiro and call yourself a sea lover, you must know Marlin Yacht, a company skippered by experienced navigators and first of all, unconditional lovers of the sea.
Rio is a great place for marlin fishing, not to mention other fish species you wont find back home.
You can count on safe, luxurious and very comfortable boats, acting in leisure, business corporation and educational areas, offering the following schedule; boat location for the Rio de Janeiro state; boat tour around the marvelous city; yachting clinic with base in Angra dos Reis and more.
It is an expensive sport, but much cheaper in Rio than in first world countries. The best thing is that you pay the boat rental, you can invite your friends, split the costs, and have a lot of fun!

I recently spent three of the craziest days fishing I have ever experienced.
Bungsamran Fishing Resort is the only place I know where you can catch a 40lb fish a cast!
They now also provide fully catered facilities, air conditioned bungalows, restuarants, shops and cafe.
My tip is to visit before demand pushes the prices up.
Its a real outdoorsy place, a lot of people up here go out fishing and sailing evry weekend.
There's really no better way to get out and see the islands.
Go fishing and catch yourself a whopper, jump on a sailboat and feel the waves under you, or hit up a jetboat ride (best in waves if you like adrenaline!).
There's a heap of accommodation option as well, everything from campsites to hostels and luxury apartments.

A perfect place to spend the day. Enjoy eggs and chips or proper tea at one of the three beach cafes, walk up along the cliffs towards Seaton and beyond.
Take a boat trip, go mackerel fishing (on a mackerel pleasure trip as the sign used to have it) or buy fresh fish down on the beach. Get drowsy and happy in the cliff top garden of the Anchor Inn.
Go second hand book shopping in a hidden garage book shop (look for the sign on the pavement near the top of Fore Street), stock up on surf gear at Jimmy Green's or pick up some well-priced art at the Steam Gallery.
In the summer there's a regatta, but I've always preferred it a little out of high season, when you can enjoy the peace that fills this little town.

For the best entrance take the Bac from the east of the town (1.25 Euro for a boat trip in to the town).
There is plenty to see and do in and around the town, such as fishing trips, the GR34 coastal path and the unprepossing but interesting aquarium.
I visited Puerto Escondido in September and stayed in an enormous, ocean front home with a group of friends. The price, per person, was unbeatable and came with a cook, butler, driver and maid. They prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner if desired. I have never experienced this type of architecture - the living area is completely open air covered by a large palapa. The bedrooms and entertainment room are enclosed and air conditioned. Right next door is an equally impressive, yet slightly larger house which had a wedding party arrive the day we were leaving. If and when I get married, I think this may be the place where I will go. Between the two homes, I it can accommodate 30-35 people.
I also learned how to surf. We went fishing and caught a boat load of Yellowfin Tuna - 27 to be exact as well as one Sailfish which we let go. Also got to see a lot of schools of dolphins jumping all over the place and a whale spouting in the distance. I can't wait to go back and am considering purchasing land and building there. I heard the prices have been going up quickly but from what I saw there are still some good deals to be found.
I found the property at www.puertorealestate.com
The place I stayed was Desclaza which is next to Rubio.
I flew from NY to Mexico City to Puerto Escondido (PXM). One of my friends flew into Huatulco which was about 1 hour 15 minute drive south.
A pretty little village on the shore of Lough Corrib that has managed to retain its identity in the face of the roaring commercialism of the Celtic Tiger. It's famous for its fine trout fishing, so come in May, when the place is abuzz and local kids sell live Mayflies to the fishermen for dapping. Lots of good pubs and places to eat, and only 20 minutes from Galway City. It's a good base for exploring the area: wild walking around the 12 Pins of Connemara National Park, access to the Western Way, one of Ireland's great long-distance walks, Leenane (the setting for the film The Field), and some stunning coastline near the village of Roundstone, including Gurteen Beach and Dog’s Bay (prettier than it sounds).
This is a suberb spot. In the winter, a visitor is able to walk around the lake in around 45 minutes and can then have coffee/cake/beer (delete as
appropriate) at the restaurant at the end of the lake.
In the summer, this same restaurant serves a schwimmbad situated on the grassy banks of the north side of the lake, with excellent children's facilities, pedalos, etc. A modest fee is charged for entrance.
Fishermen can also try their luck on the lake and row boats are available for rental. I once watched a local haul in one of the other locals, a pike.
About ten minutes' drive from Kufstein.
Skippers is a wonderful seafood restaurant run by a local family which prides itself on the quality - and quantity - of its seafood dishes.
It also is a very friendly place, great fun, lovely family. It also has a wide range of other dishes - including a great children's menu - children are very welcome.
Burtonport is a fishing village which is the gateway to Arranmore, a wonderful island to vist, and a myriad of other islands. From Skippers, there are great walks, sea trips, plus musical evenings.

If you're visiting Paje on the East Coast of Zanzibar you have to visit Mr
Chaamu's restaurant.
An enterprising one-man band, he has set up 3 tables under cover on the beach and offers fantastic seafood dishes with traditional breads.
Bring your own beverages and be sure to book in advance as he sources everything on the day.
Also, ask about his early morning fishing trips. He will take up to 4 people out on his boat to catch the restaurant's fish for the day. He then cooks your catch for you and all of this is done at a fraction of the cost of similar trips at nearby
hotels. An absolute highlight of our holiday!
North of the Paje dive site, 10 min walk along the beach
Book a boat - much less expensive than the USA and Europe - and have a day fishing for marlin, wahoo, Spanish mackeral and mahi mahi with tuna almost guaranteed! B13 has always been lucky for me.

The fantastic trout fishery of New Zealand's South Island is currently collapsing because of the spread of the noxious algae didymo (or rock snot). Already present in 21 known rivers, including such iconic waterways as the Mataura, it is absolutely ruining the unique and precious nature of these places. Get down here asap as they will soon be gone in terms of fishing.
