Singapore already has the best airport in the world - huge terminals, clean toilets, a rooftop pool and spa, free internet terminals and an efficient Skytrain to whisk you between terminals. Now it has a top class hotel right by T3. The Crowne Plaza is perfect for a quick stopover, though not cheap. I arrived at the airport late at night with a morning flight to London. Checked into the hotel, changed and packed, strolled into the terminal to check in (Singapore Airlines does 24hr check in - no queues), back to sleep then an unhurried morning exit straight through to departures.

The BAA and everyone involved in UK airports should visit Changi, learn some lessons then hang their heads in shame.

    Flying into Abu Dhabi

Posted by jdrdxb 24 March 2008

Depending on where you have to travel to in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, then the time through AUH into town, or to "new" Dubai is much quicker than travelling to DXB airport. The time taken from touchdown to exiting the airport is much quicker.

People going to Ephesus are often ripped off by an exorbitant taxi or transfer from Izmir airport. You can avoid this by taking the train from Izmir Airport to Selçuk. There aren't many trains; they depart the airport at 8.01, 9.38, 15.32, 18.39, 19.34, 20.12 and 21.33 and take 1 ¼ hours. The alternative (if you don't have much baggage) is to walk to the end of the airport slip road (about 1 mile), cross the main road and pick up a minibus.

The train station is right next to the airport and well signposted. The train fare is 2 Lira (80p), the minibus is 6 Lira (£2.50). If you need to get a taxi, you might be able to haggle the price down to 80 to 100 Lira (£30 to 40).

    Airport Express train

Posted by Mant 28 August 2007

The Airport Express is the express train that runs from HK international airport to central HK.

It costs 100 HKD to take a single and there are return tickets available if you are returning within 1 month.

On the return trip, you may be able to check in for your flight at Hong Kong station or Kowloon station. Check with your airline beforehand as this can save you some time.

When aeroplanes are delayed during the warm, rainy season that causes smog, accept it and take it in your stride. This will help you to enjoy your trip, especially your arrival and departure.

Plan for a 2-part departure, flying the first leg from Bangalore to Mumbai in the evening, with an 11 am flight from Mumbai to Heathrow the next morning. Therefore, any delays will not have you queueing for hours having been up since the crack of dawn with a short fuse for an international departure. Also warn your hotel if there is a chance that you may need accommodation, in the event that you cannot depart.
