    Folk Revolution

Posted by silidh 5 March 2007

It's a wee shop lurking round the back of St George's Cross in the West End and it's packed with books, instruments and recordings to thrill any folkie. The staff are very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Magic.

    Ely Folk Festival

Posted by NSandford 16 June 2006

Ely Folk Festival is a small friendly festival held on the second weekend of July. Weekend tickets cost £45. The line up has all the sort of things a
folk festival should such as late night dances, a real ale and cider bar and informal sessions.

Ely is a lovely town to visit as well. The perfect alternative if you left it too late to get tickets for the Cambridge Folk Festival.

    Tapestry South West

Posted by BarryStilwell 13 June 2006

Based this year in a deer park in South Wales, this indie-folk festival will feature Field Music and the Brian Jonestown Massacre alongside a medieval village and a jousting display.

Margan Park isn't far from the steelworks of Port Talbot, which creates a dramatic view at night - belching flames across the bay, it's very strange and beautiful, the park itself has lots to offer but it's only a short drive from some great beaches namely Rest Bay and a slightly longer drive to the mumbles and Gower Peninsular.

    Fairport's Cropredy Convention

Posted by Adurman 19 June 2006

There may be no Glastonbury this year – but rock festival devotees will find the ideal substitute in Fairport's Cropredy Convention.

This three-day annual event caters for up to 20,000 fans. It takes place in Oxfordshire and the dates are Thursday 10 to Saturday 12 August 2006.

Newcomers and Cropredy regulars alike enjoy a wide variety of acts: this year they include festival favourite Glen Tilbrook, folkrock legends Steeleye Span, pop maestros 10CC, and guitar virtuoso John Martyn. And, of course, there will be Fairport Convention's customary closing spot
    on the Saturday evening.

Ticket prices start at £64 for all three days, it's great value for money – in fact, it is one of the cheapest three-day festivals of its kind. Camping is equally inexpensive and under-12s get in for free.
