Really nice sandy beach stretching 17 kilometres from Santa Pola to Torrevieja. There's some great outdoor restaurants by the beach serving all sorts of seafood dishes. The Paella's great!

A good breakfast is a Sydney institution. From fresh fruit to slap up eggs and bacon with all the trimmings. Washed down with a cup of the best coffee to set you up for the day. Don't miss out, avoid the hotel smorgasbord rip offs and you won't blow the budget either.
The best cafes are in the Inner West (Glebe, Rozelle, Balmain), Eastern Suburbs and the sea side suburbs (Bondi,Bronte, Manly). The locals have their favourites and don't like to broadcast their location. But just head for the ones with a crowd and enjoy.
This quiet coastal destination around 16 miles from Kampot used to be Cambodia’s beach town in the 1960s, but nowadays the old villas are in ruins. The main draw of visiting Kep is the oceanfront seafood stalls, which there are many to pick from, all serving the same delicious fare of locally caught fish, crab, squid, prawns, snails and many other seafood delicacies. You can go to the seafront and choose your live catch from the fishermen, actually more likely fisherwomen and then your selection will be barbecued for you and brought to your table within fifteen minutes. A full table of assorted seafood with rice, vegetables and beer will set you back around $25 for four people. Before or after eating do visit the quiet beach for a relaxing swim.
The journey from Kampot takes around 45 minutes. You can hire a moto driver for $8 round trip or quite easily do the journey yourself on a hired motorbike.
The new Ngong Ping 360 cable car goes from right near Tung Chung MTR metro station on Lamma, 5.7km up & around Lamma's peaks to the Po Lin Monastary and giant bronze budhha.
The trip is undeniably fantastic, with views of Hong Kong airport to one side. It's very smooth, but those afraid of heights should be aware!
The only downside is being dropped off in "Ngong Ping Village", actually a shopping village full of many of the same international brands elsewhere on HK (Starbucks etc). There's also a 'Monkey's Tale Theatre' and 'Walking With Buddha' experiences, which might keep easily distracted kids amused but otherwise are quite commercially crass against the backdrop of the huge, serene buddha.
Better might be to do what I did: take the ferry to Mui Wo, then the bus up the mountain. Just as cheap and more fun. You can then stop off for food in the village (assuming you've not eating cheaply at the monastary) before being whisked back by the cable car and metro.
This is a small restaurant, with good food and friendly service. There is a three course set menu at lunch time for 9.50 Euros, and they also do sandwiches and light meals. In the evening we ate well and it was not too expensive. And we loved the T-shirt.

Because if you don't read it and you are moderately naive like me, 'Happy Curry' is just another colourful south-east Asian turn of phrase....rather than an opium & pot laced journey into neurosis and paranoia, culminating in a night sleeping with a knife under the pillow, keys stuffed in the top of the bedroom door and the contents of my backpack on the floor in order to wake me (like I ever fell asleep) when the cooks were going to come in and steal my kidneys. Not recommended eating by accident.

Gelateria della Palma is a gelateria near the Trevi fountain (and other locations). There is an amazing variety of flavours, all gorgeously displayed. The chocolate gelato with candied orange peel is reason enough to return to Rome.

This wonderful restaurant and hotel is a big old house where they source the food locally with fish from Ballycotton, superb beef from Cloyne, vegetables from their own gardens and cheese from local indepedent cheesemakers. If you have the time do visit Ballymaloe Cookery School. Their cookbook is well worth buying.

This restaurant is near the Zona Rosa and has very good Mexican food, including traditional quesadillas with squash blossoms (delicious), and a wonderfully unique cocktail called a torito. The torito with mamey (a tropical fruit) is unforgettable. Unless you have too many.

This seafood restaurant is about fifteen miles from Galway. It's in a wonderful location and is a superb place on summer evenings for a pint and some smoked salmon.

Maison Blanc is part of Raymond Blanc's culinary empire but this Oxford cafe is the original. A small patisserie, boulangerie and cafe at the top of St Giles, it is perfect for Saturday morning breakfasts or cake and coffee. Everything is beautiful and scrumptious, from the almond croissant to the tarte au citron and the pain rustique. It is also surprisingly family friendly and we always see toddlers in here.

Inside a rather dour, grey building is The Grill House, a bright and vibrant Mexican-influenced restaurant.
The Grill House is always full - they do a fantastic £4.95 lunchtime menu which changes regularly and their evening menu is crammed full of delights such as pizza, chilli, fajitas, steak and Mexican stew ranging from £6.50 to £14.00.
The atmosphere is friendly and informal and the decor is warm amd inviting so it can't fail to cheer you up on a dark and dismal winter day.

A St Andrews institution. Jannetta's is an ice cream shop dating from 1908. They make fifty-two flavours of ice cream and they are all wonderful, so much so that people queue along the pavement at the first sign of warm weather in early Spring.

George and Davis' is situated on Little Clarendon Street in Jericho. It is something of an Oxford institution with quirky cow-themed pictures on the walls and a studenty appeal. It serves great ice cream in an array of wonderful (and sometimes weird) flavours and customers can start a petition for a flavour of their own design
to be made. If 30 signatures are collected the management will consider making it.
The cafe also serves great pizza bagels for those who need a savoury snack. It is open until midnight and, although there are plenty of students in term-time, it's worth making a visit.
G&Ds Ice Cream Cafe, Little Clarendon Street.
This restaurant is situated near the Grand Théatre, off the place de la Comédie. It is popular, often with queues of customers waiting outside the door at busy times. They will eventually be shown to a table on one of four floors of the restaurant. There is only one main course available - steak with fries, salad and the famous l'entrecote sauce at sixteen euros. And diners only choice of wine is between red and rosé - something of a relief if you're a little tired of being pretentious about wine.
This isn't French dining for the purists - there are plenty of wonderful restaurants in Bordeaux to try, and if you're only going out for one meal in Bordeaux please go to La Tupina. It is, admittedly, part of a very small chain of restaurants throughout France. However, it is affordable, fun, very popular and the steak is yummy.

If you have a car do not miss a trip to Franschhoek, the gourmet capital of South Africa. Enjoy a great lunch in the Cellars Restaurant after a wine tasting. Each course is accompanied by a different wine and it is a delightful experience.
Go through the village of Franschhoek, take a right at the monument and follow the road up the pass for approximately two kilometres.
