The old town & sea front

Posted by johnwoolmer 21 June 2008

Gorgeous old town, pedestrian friendly and good to explore. Quality shops, markets and restaurants/cafes; good beer and delicious ice creams.

Efficient buses and trains follow the coast to Split and Dubrovnik, while ferries are fun. Airport easily reached.

A highly recommended holiday destination with good sunshine, crystal clear seas, friendly and hospitable people and nearly everyone speaks English.

The thing about Granada is that the people are probably the friendliest on the planet. The tapas is great wherever you go, though it pays to keep a weather eye on where the locals are hanging out (but that is the case wherever you go). As I was travelling on a budget the restaurants in that budget were not the Mae West (I once ordered a lemon sorbet and actually got a lemon milkshake, the fresh lemon juice curdling the milk beautifully) but you can live well on the tapas.

A great cheap breakfast is to have tostada e queso (basically cheese on toast) standing at the bar with your coffee. It is always cheaper to stand at the bar.

The sights are things you will remember all your life. The Alhambra set under skies of impossibly deep Andalucian blue are something that have to be witnessed and make your soul sing when you do. Even flying into the airport with the sun sinking behind the Sierra Nevada was a stunning way to start the holiday.

I don't remember one surly, rude or just plain moody person. And I can meet five on a trip to the shops here. I could enthuse about Granada for hours so I will now stop....

    Dar Tassa, Berber Guest House

    Posted by GSmart07 7 December 2007

Dar Tassa is a simply wonderful place in the Atlas Mountains near Marrakech.
A lovely place amongst beautiful surroundings, let alone the delicious food and drink!

With highly friendly, knowledgeable and English speaking hosts aiding the organisation of our trek, our trip was definitely one to remember.

We visited on reading about this wonderful place in the RyanAir magazine where Dar Tassa was voted in their Top 10 most Eco-Friendly places to visit that won't harm the planet, or your pocket.

With great value for money we will be returning to Dar Tassa for sure.

    Chiang Mai

Posted by Amyontheroad 4 June 2007

I have been travelling in Thailand a while now and of all the places I have been this is the winner by far. Thailand is a friendly country but Chiang Mai is in a different league. The people are great and just hanging around the city is a lot of fun.

It is far less busy and polluted than Bangkok and much less commercial than Phuket and the islands.

There is tons to do. I have been trekking, done a cookery course, had loads of massages and spa treatments and the food is terrific. A wide variety of choice and at ridiculous prices.
Brilliant all round so my tip is go to Chiang Mai!

    La Pace del Cervello

Posted by neptuno 24 January 2006

Family run restaurant/trattoria very close to the Colosseum, excellent value and friendly staff. This is a much better choice than the restaurants that actually overlook the Colosseum and much more 'local'. Wide menu selection as well as the usual pizzas (which are very good). They also have a massive collection of games which you are welcome to play with during or after your meal - we were there for about 4 hours on a Sunday afternoon...

    La Pace del Cervello
    Via dei SS Quattro, 63.
    Tel: 06 7005173
At the 'back' of the Colosseum, ie opposite to where you go in. There are few parallel streets running away from the Colosseum, this is the 2nd from the left and about 100m down on the left - just after the Spar!

Posted by sitavana 25 November 2005

Bed and breakfast in Rome. Gianpaolo's (30) - he is previously wine buff, painting restorer. Five minutes from the town centre. metro station very close; wonderful views of the roofs of Rome, can be noisy from traffic and no air con. Good breakfast cooked by GP. Lovely friendly dog Goedel who is kept out of the rooms. Very friendly and will pick up from airport at cheap cost.
