    Castelinho38

Posted by theRealNoraBarnacle 7 May 2010

Castelinho38 is a divinely appointed guest house in the safe, beautiful and lively neighborhood of Santa Teresa, in Rio. I stayed there as a solo female traveler and felt very confident walking from the Castelinho at night to all of the great nightspots along the neighbourhood's main artery, where you can hear wonderful live and informal samba, chorinho, and bossanova sessions. The owners and staff at Castelinho will take excellent care of you and see to your every need. There, you can grab a beer from the honour bar, sit back in a hammock, listen to the groovy sounds they have playing, and behold the gloriousness of Guanabara Bay, the intoxicating scents of all the surrounding flora, and the pleasant (and never overly loud) pulsating sounds of the best city on Earth!

    Om Sai Guest House

    Posted by AshRo1 17 February 2010

Just had a refreshing stay at the Om Sai guest house at the Palolem beach in Goa. Palolem is definitely one of the best beaches in Goa and Om Sai offer good, spacious rooms with nice sit outs. The place is safe and the owners are great.

    Cape Town Backpackers

    Posted by travel09 15 February 2009

Forget hotels stay here! Spotlessly clean modern rooms, (we even had a balcony overlooking table mountain). Great staff, gave really good advice on where to go in Cape Town and the area. Really fun bar, over all a great choice, the rooms and food is as good as any hotel, but for some reason these guys don't charge as much! They also have a great fun bar full of people who have travelled all over the world and who actually talk to you. We made so many friends amongst the staff and guests we left wanting to stay longer, thats never happened to me in any faceless hotel

    164 Guest House

    Posted by york137 10 February 2009

Many guides rave about the 164 boutique guest house and it's easy to see why: For 700/1100 Rand per night (single/double) you get huge, stylish rooms with en-suite facilities and cable TV. Breakfast is freshly cooked on demand - impeccable scrambled eggs, for example - and the service manages to be both personable and discreet. There is a small bar for residents and a selection of OK restaurants in walking distance.

    Tango House Bed & Breakfast

Posted by travelwizard 20 October 2008

I have stayed at many places worldwide and this place is one of my favorites. Great location - just around the corner from the Main Market Square which meant I could stroll around or go sightseeing. The building, which the owner told me, was a first public bath house in Krakow back in the 15th century!

But the rooms are anything but old, they are modernly furnished and I didn't have any problems using my laptop (free wi-fi in my room). The place has a small tango cafe (the whole place is decorated in a tango style) where they serve buffet breakfast - good variety. Staff are very warm and friendly. I had a problem with my TV set and someone came within 10 minutes and fixed it. Very nice bathroom. You can also get a tango lesson from the owner! I highly recommend it.

Go for a couple of days - it's worth the visit. We stayed at the Afonso guest house, it's nice although the prices double over Christmas. There are some nice walks around this area.

    Pension Vltava

Posted by factual 27 November 2007

Pension Vltava offers a fine stay as it is reliable for really cheap, really basic and very clean rooms. It is great to know about for very cheap breaks to see the city or see a concert, and flying visits when you haven't booked anywhere.

It's also good if you need to to save money and have a private room if you are just passing through the city and need a place you can rely on for a cheap room which is clean.

This guest house happens to have a tiny coffee shop and bar which stays open all night every night and is really cheap. You can relax with tea or coffee, beers, wine, cognacs or becherovkas back in your room at any time.

I recommend this place. I have nearly always got a room when enquiring on the same day (it is a quite a large guest house). The price is around £11 to £14 for a room for one person per night with very clean common shower and loo.

For those who don't know the city and especially for those to whom the central places are familiar, for the lowest budget place to stay the guest house is ideally placed. It is around eight to ten minutes on a tram from near the guest house to central areas. Around it are a few interesting bars and cafes. There aren't very many tourists around here though the area is quite nice and fresh if you know Prague, except backpackers and younger travellers are noticeable as Sir Toby's travel hostel, Extoll Inn, a few other guest houses and a Czech H.I. travel hostel are around here.

The river where it bends is just over five minutes walk away and it is a pleasant walk into the centre along the riverside from near Pension Vltava. Set aside a couple of hours for a great walk across the river, away from the city, to a leafy part on the outskirts of the city, to the Trojska Chateau gallery and courtyard cafe in summer, Prague Zoo and the lovely Botanic Gardens.

It is ideal to walk here, if you have the time, and better than taking a tram, though you can eaily go by tram. Either way, it is a quiet part of the city which is lovely and I really recommend it.

A good walk away of over ten minutes is the nice Cafe Lisbon on the main riverfront road, which has characteristic pizzas especially and is good for drinking at. Just over ten minutes in the opposite direction, toward Stromovka park, is the Absolut Hotel which has an unpretentious and quite minimalist, pleasant bar and restaurant. The Mecca Music Club is a few minutes walk from the guest house. Not far, good food at a good price in the restaurant of Hotel Henry, U Papírny.

    Amarasinghe Guest House

Posted by FiHanks 22 October 2005

This family run guest house is one of the best value places I've ever stayed. Beautiful house with fantastic rooms for $10 a night. Mrs Amarasinghe's rice and curry are also top notch - some of the best in Sri Lanka.
