Le Monde hotel/bar

Posted by shaderarmour 26 July 2006

I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a really luxurious treat. It’s new and very opulent, and that bit different. It has eighteen rooms, all themed around a city (for instance: LA, Dublin, Marrakech, Beijing). We stayed last time in Atlantis, which was absolutely beautiful. Attention to detail is first class, staff are really friendly, and you get a welcome drink on arrival. Right in the centre of Edinburgh on the very stylish George Street, it also has three bars called Paris, Milan and Vienna and a nightclub called Tokyo in the basement. I particularly enjoyed the French martinis in Paris bar. Definitely wish to go back soon.

Hotel Forum in Rome

Posted by italreini 24 July 2006

Stayed at the Hotel Forum in Rome this June and enjoyed a wonderful week in this beautiful city.
The hotel is centrally located, right opposite the Forum, excellent for visiting all major sites.
Room and service were great too, so I would definitely use this hotel again and can recommend it to friends.

A romantic hotel in Paris

Posted by laura72 19 July 2006

I have just come back for my unforgettable and romantic stay in Paris. But let me explain from the beginning: I didn't know where to look for a romantic hotel or bed and breakfast in Saint Germain. After surfing on the net I discovered this parisby.com, which has lots of beautiful properties (and pictures of them).

Finally, I found Hotel d'Aubusson, a cozy hotel in the right location. I asked the travel assistant of the website, Elena, to help me with some things (flowers and wine in the room) for our anniversary, and she suggested I write to the owner of the property, and everything went perfect.

Garnish House

A most elegant establishment that modestly called itself a guesthouse, but worthy of a much greater status where the breakfasts are of gargantuan proportions.

San Remo Hotel

Posted by nigglenz 15 July 2006

This is a great place if you want something a little different from the norm. They have done a great job restoring it and the prices won't break the bank. Very old fashioned with lots of plants everywhere! We stopped here for about 6 nights and although it was a little tricksy with a baby, we preferred it to the more upmarket boring places that were available for a dime a dozen. It's nice to experience a bit of history and then sleep in it!

5 star hotel about 30 mins from Hurghada. The most awesome windsports destination and a fantastic hotel too. If you're a guest of Mark Warner there is a huge array of watersports on offer and the wind is fantastic. We learnt to kitesurf here which was just amazing.

The Dogan Motel in Orhaniye

Posted by BFDave 26 April 2006

This place is superb. In a prime waterfront location in the village of Orhaniye, this hotel/motel/restaurant/beach club has been run by the Dinc family for many years. I have been going there for the last 8 years.

Orhaniye is a peaceful, quiet, typically Turkish village in the equivalent of a national park that is almost completely undiscovered by mass tourism (Sunsail use it as a base but they are at sea 6 days out of 7).

Discuss your requirements with the Dinc family, they will pick you up and return you to Dalaman airport; this is about a two hour journey and you will go through Turkey's Blackpool - Marmaris - but rest assured Orhaniye is light years distant rather than just 30 minutes!

As of 2007 the family will be taking bookings directly.

Hotel Montetauro

Posted by Helen23 18 April 2006

I've just come back from an (all too) brief stay at this hotel in Taormina, Sicily. It's nestled on the side of Monte Tauro so all the rooms have balconies with spectacular views along the coastline. The room was very luxurious, with flooring made from volcanic rock from mount Etna!

I booked through Perfect Places - www.perfectplacesoline.co.uk or 08703 331771 and flew to Catania from Gatwick with BA.

Gie

Posted by Vickid 10 April 2006

Gien is a small village on the tip of a penisular. The Hotel Provencal in Giens has the most wonderful views looking out towards the Iles de Hyeres.

The hotel has a private beach complemented with a seawater swimming pool you could say it’s shabby chic.

The food complements the fantastic views. It’s got restaurants to cater for all ages and tastes, easy access to the main town and not far from Toulon or follow the coast road to the expensive part of the south of France.

This is a real hidden gem.

You can fly to the local airport Toulon-Hyeres, it's a fifteen minute taxi ride to the airport.

Not going

Posted by Nicoise 9 April 2006

Why? It's just one big building site and construction is sometimes around the clock. Maybe not what you want if you are paying £200+ a night for a beach-side hotel.......?

Grand Hotel Europa

Posted by FatGeordie 30 March 2006

A glorious, seen-better-days, art nouveau masterpiece amid the tourist tat of Wenceslas Square. The gound floor area is stunning and the pavement tables are a good place to people watch over a couple of cold ones, though a bit pricy for Prague. We stayed here in 2004 and got the room for less than £70 via a Czech website, so shop around. Though the rooms are in need of refurbishing this should not detract from the general ambience, or the central location. There is a metro station within yards and you are spoilt for choice with trams, including the night service.

The fast food kiosks all over Wenceslas Square are best avoided, a charming young lady gave me change for Kc100 when I gave her a Kc500 note, when I queried this she paid up without batting an eyelid, obviously not the first fat idiot from Gateshead she'd attempted to fleece.

Travelodge, St Mary Street

Posted by Bertha 10 March 2006

Not the place to stay if you want a quiet night's sleep. This part of Cardiff turns into party central over the weekend and the hotel is directly above one club and adjacent to others. Great if you want somewhere handy for the clubs - no good for families or those whose clubbing days are behind them.

Hotel Mercure Korona

Posted by sylvester1 15 February 2006

This is a great hotel, large but friendly. Fabulous location in Pest beside the National Museum and within walking distance of all the major sights in both Pest and Buda - minutes from the Danube. Good selection of bars, restaurants (Raday Utca street very good) and shopping. Excellent reception service with English spoken by all staff - very important here. The hotel has its own small pool and sauna, good buffet breakfasts with vegetarian options, and both a public and a private members' bar. We asked for a quiet room, which was good. Like many hotels in Cental Pest there is the likelihood of traffic noise if you are on a main road (it is a city). I would thoroughly recommend it.

Gresham Palace Four Seasons

Posted by fionabuda 13 February 2006

This branch of the Four Seasons opened about a year ago in the recently renovated Gresham Palace. The renovation is spectacular, and its one of the most impressive buildings in Budapest both inside and out. You don’t have to be staying there to enjoy the wonderful bar, café and restaurant. It is a great place to have a nice cup of tea and sit down after exploring the castle district and Chain Bridge.

Oriental Brighton

It was a lovely place to stay with stylishly decorated rooms and a funky bar/breakfast area. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast option included a feast of fresh fruit, honey and yoghurt as an alternative to the (what looked lovely) traditional English (organic) breakfast.
