    Manchester Bar

Posted by MarkieboyUK 17 April 2008

This is a bar that I would dearly love to have just down the road at home!

Small, cosy and intimate, playing great music from Joy Division, The Smiths, Bowie, The Sex Pistols, etc.. An indie mecca for music.

Friendly bar staff, cheap prices and never that concerned about closing! I left there at gone 2am and there was no sign of people leaving, in fact others were still coming in!

Do yourself a favour and discover this little gem!

    Clubbing in Berlin

    Posted by monkeyhanger1986 13 December 2007

For those into something a little alternative (dub, indie, electronica etc), numerous small clubs around the Warschauer Strasse metro stop such as Cassiopeia and Rosis Bar are highly recommended. Relatively inexpensive with a great crowd and good music.

    Williamsburg

Posted by sonnyred 3 December 2007

An area of Brooklyn full of small retro clothes shops, record shops, cafes and restraunts. Great to wander around and get the feel of a New York neighbourhood.

Take the L train over to Brooklyn.

    Ground Zero records

Posted by Adrian Dawson 11 October 2007

Formerly near metro Filles de Calvaire, Ground Zero records, at 23 rue Ste Marthe, in the 10th, is an excellent shop, specialising in indie, post-rock and leftfield.

It stocks lots of vinyl and carries fliers for gigs. It's a million miles away from the megastores.

    Cafe Flamingos

Posted by ChrisRuscoe 17 August 2007

For an alternative bar, filled with grungy Spaniards and cool European types, with a DJ playing cool indie tunes, try Cafe Flamingos, in the heart of El Raval, just five minutes' walk from Las Ramblas.

Indietracks is a unique music festival that takes place on a 1950s steam railway in Ripley, Derbyshire. It's a great way to sample the picturesque Derbyshire countryside, ride on a steam railway and and hear some fantastic indiepop bands.

The next festival will take place on the weekend of 28-29 July, featuring dozens of bands - both new and established - including The Orchids, Cats on Fire, Bearsuit, The Cut Outs, Persil, as well as a DJ set from London's influential How Does It Feel To Be Loved? club night.

Festivalgoers have unlimited rides on the steam railway over the weekend and full access to the railway attractions.

The first Indietracks festival in April 2007 was a wonderful, special event, with music-lovers enjoying bands on the platform and dancing away on the train's disco carriage as it travelled through the countryside. There really isn't another music festival like this!

    Prager Frühling

Posted by DollyMixture 26 February 2007

"Prager Frühling" is the German for "Prague Spring". The name refers to the period in early 1968 when the Czechoslovak Communist Party leader Alexander Dubcek tried to liberalise the country's communist regime by introducing free speech and freedom of assembly. The Prague Spring ended when Warsaw Pact troops invaded on the night of the 20-21 August 1968. But enough of the history lessons. Prager Frühling is currently one of the hippest joints in Munich. There are live bands most nights. And when there are no bands, there are live DJ's or special parties.

Great beer and great music. Constantly rotating guest ales. The DJ plays rock and indie from Johnny Cash to Metallica. Very entertaining and freindly.

    330 Ritch St

Posted by furryvision 19 July 2006

Located off Townsend between 3rd & 4th Street in the thriving South Beach /Soma area, 330 Ritch Street has been hosting events, receptions and club nights for over a decade.

Known for its underground appeal, hipsters flock to this club five days a week for it's various musical genres. Especially recommended is Popscene, a Britpop night each Thursday bringing you the best in indie, Britpop, mod and electronica.

We were staying for a week and in that time managed to see Jet (before they were big and who we ended up going out drinking with), The Libertines and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
