    13th Note

Posted by CathM 5 March 2007

Independent music venue, bar & vegetarian & vegan cafe. Chilled out atmosphere, friendly staff, great place to check out new bands. Best jukebox in town, DJs upsatirs at weekends. Food is well tasty and good value for money.

    Barneys Beanery

    Posted by jodyq1 21 September 2006

With 2 branches in L.A. (the original in west L.A. on the old Route 66 and a more recent addition in Santa Monica) this is a fine place for a few beers from an enjoyably broad beer menu featuring brews from all over the world. There's no need to go for the usual U.K. available labels so try a nice Fat Tire or Anchor Steam instead, and add a fabulous calzone or chilli bowl from their equally long food menu. Shoot some pool, play the jukebox or look at the tabletops which are full of showbiz memorabilia and great old celebrity pictures.

    The Windmill

Posted by ourmaninbristol 23 August 2006

Sister pub to The Pipe & Slippers across town. The ethos is much the same, mixing pub and bar culture with a kitchen that does tapas and pieminister pies. The real boon of this place is the 1970s NSM jukebox which only plays vinyl. It won't accept today's new fangled coins mind, so old school 10ps and 50ps are bought from the bar.

    Cafe Kino

Commendable co-op that does good coffee as well as vegetarian and vegan food. All ingredients are organic or sourced locally making this an ethical, guilt-free place to eat. Sadly, there's not a single 'Now' compilation in their jukebox.

    The Tyne Bar

Posted by manicminer 14 November 2005

The best bar in Newcastle. Great beer, relaxed atmosphere, thoroughly untrendy and well away from the harsh lights and hair-gel of the Quayside and Bigg Market.

Featuring a free jukebox and gigs in the summer, this is Newcastle at its down-to-earth best.

Malin Street, Newcastle; There's a map on the website (www.thetyne.com) which should make things easier. Walk about 1/2 a mile or so east along the river from the Quayside, past some modern apartments. Malin Street is on your left just past these apartment blocks, and the Tyne is located snugly under the conspicuous red brick bridge.

    Hillgrove Porter Stores

Posted by ourmaninbristol 22 August 2006

A pub with a phenomenal jukebox hiding away where the Georgian terraces of Kingsdown juxtapose against the high-rise post-war housing of the 1960s. Manu Chao, Motown, jazz, reggae, all await your jukebox selection.
