Tasty and healthy Lebanese food from a restaurant often overlooked despite its great position in the Northern Quarter. Better still, if operates a bring-your-own-booze policy, meaning an already cheap meal works out even cheaper. Well worth considering, both by travellers on a budget and locals out to try something new.

Mohandessin is an area close to Zamalek but on the east bank of the Nile. In general it's a good place to explore, with various cultural centres and cafes. But most importantly, it has the restaurant Cedars, near Lebanon Place - you should absolutely eat there. It's fantastic Lebanese food, the best I've ever had, and probably on a par with some places in Beirut. It's a great big restaurant (be sure to eat on the terrace) and I remember eating so much that I really couldn't move for a couple hours. Truly, it's the best Middle Eastern cuisine I've ever had, and that's saying something.

A cozy Lebanese restaurant and cafe. While most Arabic restaurants in Dubai are either cafe-style dens full of screaming teenagers or cliched Arabic restaurants, Layali provides the perfect antidote to the "Disneyland"-style food offerings in Dubai.
First things first: the food is excellent. Authentic and tasty Lebanese food, not too expensive, and their Saj bread (steaming, freshly baked thin Arabic bread) is unforgettable. The sheeshahs are very good, and the staff are excellent.
Very reasonably priced, about AED 80 each (11 pounds) for a very big meal and a sheeshah.
It's located on Sheikh Zayed Road, at the back of Saeed Tower (the building with Pizza Hut and Nando's). Just ask a taxi to take you to "Sheikh Zayed Road, Crowne Plaza side", and count off 12 buildings past the Crowne Plaza. It's open until 2 or 3 every night.
Lebanese restaurant. Gorgeous food - mezes, grills etc (must try fatoush). Great value, especially the set menu. Very friendly. Family run and therefore very welcoming toward young children. Top off your food with a hubba bubba pipe. Everyone we take loves it and takes their friends too.

Great street to explore for cafes, restaurants and shopping. There’s Greek, Italian, Turkish and Lebanese food. Highlights are : Mediterranean Wholesalers - an Italian supermarket - A1, Tabett's Lebanese bakeries and Istanbul Meats. Just wander up and down the street and find lots of hidden gems.
North Coburg tram goes there from Elizabeth St in the City
Lygon Street: Italian restaurants
Victoria Street: Vietnamese restaurants
The area of Brunswick (for example, Sydney Rd): Lebanese and Turkish restaurants
The area of Richmond: Greek restaurants
The area of Armadale (for example, High St): Japanese restaurants
And obviously Chinatown for Chinese restaurants
If, like me, you're willing to forego the table service, live 'music' and belly dancers available on the Edgware Road - Beirut Express is the Lebanese cafe worth queuing for. Part of the Maroush restaurant stable, it consistently serves good food at reasonable prices.
You can sample a range of traditional mezze dishes (try: soujok, baba ghanoush, batata hara, moutabal, spicy lebanese salad), alongside the standard chicken or lamb wraps, fresh juices (mango works), finishing off with baklava and tea.
If you're determined to make it an (alcohol-free) all-nighter, the sheesha bar across the street has the latest 'licence' in W2. Follow the neon lights.

Tasty, fresh and healthy Lebanese food at very reasonable prices. The staff are friendly, and you can eat in or take away. They are also happy to cater for parties at home etc.

Lebanese restaurant in a beautiful cavernous basement arch stripped back to the original brickwork. Their menu has an overwhelming array of choice but there's no need to panic as the food is all excellent. Particularly good are their lebanese flatbreads fresh out of the on-site bakery.
