Sacha Lodge in the Northern Oriente area of Ecuador is a fantastic place to experience the Amazonian rain forest. It’s made up of a collection of cabins on the banks of a lake. Whether you are an avid bird watcher, or just a curious traveler, the lodge have staff who will do everything they can to make your visit rewarding, educational and whole lot of fun. Accommodation is comfortable, the food is amazing, and the level of customer care from all of the staff is exceptional. Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly and were only too happy to pass on some of their knowledge of the flora and fauna that surrounded us. I can’t recommend this place highly enough and on top of all that it does valuable work in conservation too.
Some tour companies in the area are providing hunting expeditions with members of the local indigenous communities. While it’s legal for the indigenous population to hunt, it is illegal for tourists to take part in hunts, and the activity damages local wildlife populations so you should decline, and find another tour company if they offer you a hunt as part of your tour.

Take a short flight from Quito
This is an opportunity to get up close and personal with the rainforest. It is free and the walk is easy and great.
Well signposted from Mossman.
Serra dos Tucanos is about 90 minutes from Rio de Janeiro. The lodge is set in its own grounds in the Atlantic rainforest. Primarily it has been set up to cater for bird watchers who wish to see the varied bird life of the Atlantic rainforest. You can watch the many birds from the comfort of the veranda, see the hummingbirds feed from the special feeders at close quarters, or watch the many birds attack the bunches of bananas hung up in the trees.
Take a walk around the grounds on the signposted trails. Or go out on one of the many varied trips they do to different sites to see the many diverse birds the area has to offer.
The food was superb with breakfast, lunch and dinner included in the price, they do packed lunches when going out on trips. Even if you were not particularly interested in the birds it would make a good place to chill-out and enjoy lazing by their outdoor pool. Andy and Cristina who own and run the lodge are two wonderful people who will make your stay very enjoyable.

This hotel is too rarefied to really feel like Jamaica, but the view from its terrace out over Kingston is worth making a trip fior. The road can be pretty perilous, and often flooded, but it takes you into the foothills of the Blue Mountains, and lush tropical rainforest.
Either go at dusk, for a sunset cocktail, so you can see the lights of Kingston come out beneath you like upside down stars. Or go for Sunday brunch, and get a rare glimpse of the Kingston elite at play.

Bukit Timah is the only area of primary rainforest left in Singapore. It has jungle treks and nature trails - including one to the highest point in Singapore. Explore the trails off the main summit road to see the amazing flora and fauna including macaques, flying lemurs and pythons. Just keep your belongings hidden away as the macaques are very adept at stealing anything they can get their hands on!
Bus 171 or 182 from Orchard or Stamford Road.
Its actually just on the outskirts of the city, up on the hills. I'd never actually experienced one before - and it really was quite beautiful, with lots of twisting paths and waterfalls. I'm sure a deeper rainforest would seem more "authentic", but this one was only a half-hour cab ride from the city.
Just outside Rio
