A slice of heaven about 40 minute drive north of Barcelona. Words really cannot describe how amazing this place is. If you're looking for some peace and quiet for a few days then I would really recommend spending some time at Can Bonastre. Set within 200 acres of vineyards at the foot of the Montserrat mountains, there are a couple of very good restaurants, spa, swimming pool and they produce all their own wine on site. Well worth bringing back a few bottles!

If fighting your way through the car crazy streets, being shouted at, pulled and pushed in every direction at the night market and then getting completely lost in in the heady, noisy souks of the medina leaves you overwhelmed and a little stressed, then this holistic sanctuary, slap bang in the middle of the throng will be an absolute life saver. The old town of Marrakesh is not only exciting and inspirational, it is also frenetic and exhausting, so visit the Mille et Une Nights for some well needed R&R - whether you go for a heavenly Argan oil massage or sumptuous seaweed wrap you'll leave feeling carefree and revitalised. For the braver souls who desire a more 'intense' experience than the traditional hammam is the only way to relax. Get steamed, scrubbed, drenched, scraped and steamed again - yes its an experience for sure, but you'll come out feeling newborn, with baby soft skin. What's more with their incredibly reasonable rates and the traditional decor and sensuous atmosphere, you'll be as fresh and vibrant as a Moroccan mint tea in minutes - definitely not one to miss.

The hamlet of Peralta is set in the Tuscan hills that rise high above the valley of Camaiore, behind Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi on the coast.

It was restored over a period of thirty years with great love and imagination by international sculptor Fiore de Henriquez (her work is all over the hamlet). Fiore lived and worked in Peralta until her death in June 2004. Peralta is not just a collection of houses and apartments for holiday lets. It is a place that inspires, seduces, has a special atmosphere. When Fiore first found Peralta (1967) in an abandoned state she immediately fell in love with the place and knew she wanted to restore the houses. She went about this in the same manner that she made her sculpture, building up, adding, taking away, moulding. The result is indeed a creation and one feels this special atmosphere immediately upon arriving. It is not a place for people seeking luxury accommodation where everything always works perfectly, but for people seeking inspiration, tranquillity and beauty.

Situated next to the Toshimaen theme park, Niwa-no-Yu Onsen (garden spa) is a relatively new super onsen, about 15 minutes from Ikebukero by train. Costing 2200yen for a ticket, you get towels, yukata, and even a free toothbrush and razor.

Inside is a selection of different flavour natural spring hot pools, sauna, steam room, cold pool, and then a lovely garden-set rotenburo outside.

Once you've bathed (usual caveats about Japanese bathing apply - shower first, so you're clean when you get in the pool) you can slip into your yukata and pop upstairs. A restaurant, bar, smoking terrace, and relaxation room await. The reclining chairs with the birdsong tweeting out of the speakers in the headrest are particularly good for a gentle sleep.

As far as I can tell there is no time limit on being there - the last visit we spent about 5 hours, bathing, sleeping, eating, bathing etc.

Super clean, very luxurious and not as gimmicky as some of the other themed onsen in Tokyo city. Worth a go if you can't get out to a countryside onsen and do it early in your trip, because after your first try you'll definitely want to do it all again.

The Jaguars are gone, but Martin and Sue, who now own the Hideaway, have kept the same format and added cooked breakfast on request. They were warm, welcoming and more than helpful - assisting us in advance with planning our trip, advising us about what to do and where to go, organising our transport…

The accommodation is comfortable and the garden, with its terraces on different levels, relaxing and peaceful. The area is safe and we went for walks and runs along Chapman’s Peak Drive from the door. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, and the Hideaway is an ideal base for exploring the area around Cape Town without having to sit in the city traffic jams. Highly recommended.
