Craft Steak at the MGM Grand

Posted by Bobarella 15 December 2006

This has to be one of the best restaurants in Las Vegas. Ate there in May of 2005 and the steaks were absolutely amazing. The service was fab, the restaurant decor and layout really stunning. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to dinner there!

Where to eat

Posted by Ieuan 13 December 2006

For the best restaurants, go outside the 'Zerktouni' ring road (Ain Daib, Anfa and Borgougne all have good, international restaurants and the best sushi is next to the Twin Towers on Blvd. Massira el Khadra).

Awel Yr Aran

Posted by dind 10 December 2006

We have a home in Cheshire and in Bala, north Wales but we rarely went out in the local town of Bala to dine. The food we found wasn't up to much, but we found a great little gem that only opend 12 months ago. It's called Awel Yr Aran and is run by a great friendly couple, Wendy and Mike. We go there every time we are over in Bala and the food is always to the highest standard, the menu is seasonal and fresh, and great value for money. They don't advertise, they don't need to - word of mouth is enough, as we always book, we do recommend you book before you visit,

Snake House Restaurant

Posted by Stiener 10 December 2006

You will need to hop on the back of a motorbike to get there because it can be hard to find, but it is totally worth it. There are many different types of snakes in glass cages all round the seating area and snakes inside the glass-topped tables! The food isn't bad either. The only thing we didn't like was the crocodile on a chain.

The Opernpalais cafe at Unter den Linden offers an experience unequalled anywhere that I know of. The opulent surroundings are only upstaged by the wonderful choice of delicious cakes. You can imagine being here in a long past era, whiling away your leisure hours with good conversation, kaffee und kuchen. Not to be missed.

Refugium

Posted by HBHCo 9 December 2006

A restaurant where we ate from the 'Winterzaubermenu' available from October to January. This costs 30 euros for 4 courses - and 3 of them are duck! Duck pancake rolls, duck 'cappucino' soup, leg of duck, and (hooray, no duck) a light mousse with cherries. Basil Fawlty ('the duck's off') has nothing on this! All served beautifully and politely in a warm, cosy environment.

Kagaya

Part bar, part puppet show, this one-man-cabaret of a dining experience is for anyone who likes to eat out in truly surreal fashion.

It's the choicest blend of beer, bar snacks, party games and singing lavatory available in Tokyo, though definitely not recommended for the overly self-conscious.

The George in Rye

Posted by Carla210 7 December 2006

Lovely Tudor coaching inn at the centre of Rye. A couple of friends live in nearby Hastings, so I come to Rye and stay at The George when I want to extend my trip with some R&R!

The place had closed for restoration until recently (i'd actually been in a couple of years ago when only the bar was open. The rest of it was a bit of a 1970s nightmare). Couldn't believe it when I went back. Beautifully designed rooms, very personal and quirky, as far from a hotel room as you can imagine (and no box shaped rooms in sight).

The George also has a restaurant (very good food, particularly when Rye's many tea rooms get a bit samey) and an evocative, historic pub.

Unfortunately we're currently in the depths of winter as The George's garden, which is in a courtyard, is also very pretty.

This really is a homely but stylish place, and I'd also urge those just visiting Rye for the day to stop in for lunch or a drink, as it's such a beautiful hotel.

One more tip: try to visit Rye when Lamb House is open, a National Trust property that Henry James lived in for the latter part of his life. Only open a couple of days a week but well worth a visit.
