Lovely Tudor coaching inn at the centre of Rye. A couple of friends live in nearby Hastings, so I come to Rye and stay at The George when I want to extend my trip with some R&R!
The place had closed for restoration until recently (i'd actually been in a couple of years ago when only the bar was open. The rest of it was a bit of a 1970s nightmare). Couldn't believe it when I went back. Beautifully designed rooms, very personal and quirky, as far from a hotel room as you can imagine (and no box shaped rooms in sight).
The George also has a restaurant (very good food, particularly when Rye's many tea rooms get a bit samey) and an evocative, historic pub.
Unfortunately we're currently in the depths of winter as The George's garden, which is in a courtyard, is also very pretty.
This really is a homely but stylish place, and I'd also urge those just visiting Rye for the day to stop in for lunch or a drink, as it's such a beautiful hotel.
One more tip: try to visit Rye when Lamb House is open, a National Trust property that Henry James lived in for the latter part of his life. Only open a couple of days a week but well worth a visit.

D&C is an 'enoteco' serving wonderful Italian food and a host of wines by the glass. Service is with a smile and staff are knowledgeable and concerned that you enjoy the food. Busy, buzzy, cheap and never fails to cheer.

Two paladares stand out in Trinidad:
Sol y Son - very nice comida criolla, in the courtyard of a Trinidad Colonial residence.
Estela - The best paladare in Trinidad, and the only place we ate at twice in Cuba. Brilliant home cooked style comida criolla, with huge portions in a beautiful setting.

Wonderful Italian restaurant, the food is tremendous and the selection is amazing, and the price is so reasonable it's beyond belief. Relax and enjoy your meal in opulent surroundings whilst you are attended to by the most beautiful and attentive waitresses in Vilnius. This place is a must for any trip to the Lithuanian capital, but either book or arrive early as when we were there the place filled up very quickly.
On the corner of Traku and Vilniaus, just at the end of Vokieciu. The opposite end to the Radisson hotel.
Hip restaurant in Belgrano. Good modern Argentinian food, great wine list, cavernous industrial-chic interior, slightly pretentious but the place to go if you want to spend an evening with the BA "it" crowd.

If you need a hearty evening meal in a relaxed and buzzy environment in Verbier, make sure you go to the Fer et Cheval - affectionately known as the 'furry shovel'. Highly recommend the lasagne.

Much of the nightlife takes place in restaurants. There is a bar street and one or two clubs but the canny local people are put off by expensive beer prices which strangely are triple those charged in restaurants. Perhaps this is why sometimes people make more noise in restaurants than bars here although private rooms are available for this purpose at no extra charge.
Connoisseurs will turn up their noses, but this is one of my favourite places to go for good, inexpensive, and fun sushi. I have brought people here who are wary of sushi but find themselves enjoying rolls with creamed cheese, fried salmon skin, and other not-very-authentic additions.
And I've never paid more than $30 for two people to be stuffed at the end of the meal.

OK, it's not Khmer food - but for a really surreal experience, check out this North Korean restaurant. Foodwise, it's cold noodles and seafood pancakes etc. But at about 8pm, all the waitresses will serenade you with karoke singing, classical violin playing, drum beating and Korean dancing...communist entertainment at its best!

Learn Khmer cooking! Learn how to make fish amok or lok lak beef - all that yummy Khmer food. A visit to the local wet market is also included. Unlike Thailand, there are hardly any cookery schools in Cambodia. It's well worth visiting this one and it's a nice little restaurant too.

This is a small restaurant, with good food and friendly service. There is a three course set menu at lunch time for 9.50 Euros, and they also do sandwiches and light meals. In the evening we ate well and it was not too expensive. And we loved the T-shirt.

This is an olive oil shop and restaurant in the Old Town of Nice. The owner is one of the most enthusiastic we have ever met. We had no idea how much variety there could be in the taste of the oils and how much the different olive oils can bring out the taste of the food. My advocado starter was amazing and my new hubby also loved his goats cheese starter. I had lasagne and he had rabbit for the main course which were great too. And the tiramisu to polish it all all, fantastic. It's such a friendly place, but we would have never had gone if it hadn't been recommended to us by Matt and Gayle at Nice Pebbles who rented our apartment to us. If you're in Nice, you so must go to Olivieria. It's not to be missed.

Friends Restaurant is a non-profit restaurant run by former street children who are being provided with training. It's part of Mith Samlanh Friends, the Cambodian arm of Friends International. A small restaurant in an alley in the centre of Siem Reap. Just ask any local or taxi to direct you. Local Khmer food, very good, very cheap. a meal for two with beer is about $10.
Wonderful, family-run neighbourhood Greek restaurant. Fresh fish and meat are cooked on an open charcoal grill and there is a great selection of starters. This place is better than many tavernas in Greece and is very reasonably priced. Try the lamb chops or any of the fish/sea food dishes.

Modern Vietnamese restaurant and bar. The bar is great if you want a cocktail/beer and some nibbles, try the crispy squid. The restaurant has a outdoor terrace filled with chinese laterns and has very reasonable beautifully presented food. Try the sticky ribs/scallops on papaya salad.

Star Anise is a relaxed fine dining restaurant with chef David Coomer consistently creating exceptional cuisine. Some of it influenced by south-east Asia and all of it outstanding.
The degustation menu is fantastic giving you a little more than a taste of his favourite items on the menu. Ma hor a well known favourite with a slice of pineapple, caramalised duck, seared scallop with a mint, chilli and coriander dressing. Licorice ice cream is another established favourite but if it's not on the menu it's worth a trip back.
The wine list is dominated by Australian wines but there are generally a few international gems as well.
