Le Bistrot D'Antoine

Posted by royalblue 10 January 2008

This is a fairly new restaurant, at least it wasn't around last time we visited, but we could have missed it. It is on Rue de Prefecture and it serves traditional Nicois dishes.

It is quite small and cosy with some tables outside. It's always busy and we'd highly recommend booking a few days before (we had to try three times before we got a table). It is a much better experience than the tourist trap of the Cours Saleya, and just two streets back.

12 Apostel Restaurant

Posted by physicsfreak 23 December 2007

The 12 Apostel is housed under the arches of the S-bahn railway in the heart of the 'Mitte' part of (what used to be East) Berlin. Every last square centimeter of the walls and ceiling is covered in sumptuous murals, and every so often the whole place shakes as a train passes overhead. Irresistable reminder of Liza Minnelli screaming at Michael York in 'Cabaret'. Often crowded, unsurprisingly, as the food (pizzas) is terrific too.

Georgenstrasse 2, S-bahn Bögen 177-180, Berlin 10117. Phone 030-2010222. Nearest U- and S-bahn stop: Friedrichstrasse.

Porcão

Posted by sabinekunert 30 November 2007

First off, you don´t have to be a carnivorous meat lover to enjoy a meal at this place, but it helps.

They also offer fish, sushi, plenty of side dishes and various salad items to suit even the pushiest of vegetarians.

The service is excellent, since the waiters pretty much have everyone covered (no matter how crowded the establishment looks), and are constantly looking out for their customers. The restaurant has a nice vibe to it and a beautiful view of one of Rio's many classic locations, the Sugar Loaf (which is a welcome sight after a few beers).

Le Potager du Marais

Posted by Richard Wainwright 11 October 2007

If you are a vegetarian desperate for some French-tasting sustenance, try Le Potager du Marais near the Pompidou Centre, Metro Rambuteau.

It is a wonderful change to eating pizza or falafel and really makes you feel like you are taking part in France's famous cuisine.

Chartier

Posted by Stephen Fash 2 October 2007

For a glimpse of the Paris of Toulouse Lautrec visit Chartier, a restaurant which looks as if it hasn't changed in a hundred years. It's cheap, cheerful and full of Parisians. Find it in the Rue du Faubourg de Montmartre

Concerts at the Concert Hall

Posted by Eason 29 August 2007

The concert hall in Bruges is a beautiful, contemporary venue with an impressive seasonal calendar of events. The performance I attended was a highlight of my trip. There are a range of tiny restaurants opposite the entrance where you can enjoy a pre-theatre meal - accompanied by a beer of course!

The Tamarind Restaurant

Excellent restaurant (locals claim it is the best fish restaurant in Africa), mainly fish and seafood and delightful setting overlooking the sea.

All local hotels and taxi drivers know it - you do need to book.

De Bakkerswinkel restaurant

Posted by Hazel Bedson 15 August 2007

Start the day by heading to De Bakkerswinkel bakery on 69 Warmoesstraat for a delightful breakfast. Their filled rolls, fresh from the oven are divine.

Work off breakfast by exploring the canals, visiting the floating Singel flower market and buying tulip bulbs for green-fingered friends and family. Take in some culture at the Van Gogh museum; alternatively, if the sun is shining, head south for a picnic in Vondelpark.

Spend the evening relaxing over delicious food and wine at Morlang (Keizersgracht 451); on a warm evening, sit on the terrace outside, overlooking one of Amsterdam’s tranquil canals.

The Witches Garden Restaurant

Posted by mediaman2 11 August 2007

Lovely, cosy little restaurant in San Blas owned by a Canadian lady serving amazingly rich and tasty dishes. I'd recommend the medallions, from what I remember you get a beautiful cheesy mash with it.

I lived in Cusco for a year and this place was always a guilty pleasure!

La Plata

A terrific little Catalan bar that is practically an institution in the art of frying lightly battered fresh sardines. They are fried to perfection every time, and you can eat the whole thing, spine, head and tail!

Sardines are in season now and at their most delicious, and whats more, a plate of hot fish washed down with a glass of cold white won't cost you any more than 3 euros!

Michael's

Posted by miss 11 June 2007

Michael's is a neighbourhood restaurant in Birkdale, Southport. The chef, Michael Wichmann, has worked all over the world before setting up in Birkdale and the food is fabulous. Scallops with taboulleh and sea trout with minted new potatoes and red onion apple salad were some of the dishes on the menu when we visited recently and it was fabulous. The service is professional but friendly, and children are welcome.

Playa de Rodas

Actually, I have been in this beach, and I can say it is really amazing. It is very beautiful and you can only enjoy it during the summer. The boat trip to this beach is also nice.

There is a restaurant where you can taste the quality typical seafood and fishes of this region. If you come here, bring your suncream with you because the sun is too high.
