Riad Maizie is a beautiful calm oasis right in the heart of Marrakech. Reached through a maze of alleyways, but only seven or so minutes' walk from the main square, it's set on three floors (the top one being a fabulous sun terrace) around a cool tiled courtyard.

Our accommodation was fabulous - comfortable and spacious, and the whole place is ideal as a base from which to see the sights, or for day-long lounging - our favourite hobby. Our host, James, was the most charming, knowedgeable and helpful person, and his team were also lovely - helpful and eager to please. We may well have exasperated James a wee bit with our lack of sightseeing ambition, but it never showed and a plentiful supply of teas, coffees, cooling drinks and interesting chat was always on offer.

This is a great place for a holiday - we spent six days there, but I think you can book for shorter breaks - or, of course, for longer! Warmly recommended.

This is a rather stylish, calm riad in the best part of the medina owned by two Scottish brothers who have cornered the market in Moroccan hospitality (they also have a property in Marrakech). The house has been painstakingly restored and tastefully decorated to include 21st century five-star comforts without compromising on local craftsmanship and details.

Riad Tizwa Fes is a personal and intimate Moroccan townhouse with charming and welcoming English-speaking staff containing nine double bedrooms and wi-fi in all the rooms. This place is an oasis we will definitely return to again and again!

Riad Maizie is a stunningly restored riad in the heart of the Marrakech medina owned by the author Miranda Innes. It is five minutes' walk from the main souks and 10 from Djemaa Fna, and is the perfect tranquil spot to retreat to after a long day of shopping and sightseeing. The English manager James was very helpful and very knowledgeable about what to do in Marrakech (and how much to pay).

They have five beautiful rooms to stay in, a lovely roof terrace and the traditional Moroccan meals were very good (especially the lamb and prune tagine).

Dar Lazuli in Essaouira is a really tranquil, relaxing place to stay. It has a great location just inside the medina walls, a minute's walk from the beach, main square and cafes.

The riad is full of character and lovely white painted walls which just make the whole place feel full of light.

The beds are huge and really comfortable, and there are two terraces where you can sit and enjoy meals outside. Essaouira can be pretty windy and the terraces are really sheltered.

The Moroccan couple that look after Dar Lazuli are incredibly friendly, keep the place immaculate and can't do enough for you. Latifa can also cook delicious meals for you in your apartment which I thoroughly recommend!

Dar Najat is a beautiful cosy riad located in the heart of the medina in Marrakech, just 5 minutes' walk from the famous square, Jema El Fna, which makes it an ideal place to stay! The owner and his team are clearly dedicated to making their guests feel at ease and create an environment full of fun but also very relaxing.

The rooms are clean (I stayed there a few times and have never been disappointed), comfortable and quiet, ideal after a busy day in the souks! Olivier is available most of the day to give you tips and organise a guided tour of Marrakech if you would like one. I also loved the fact that there is an outdoor jacuzzi on the terrace where you can enjoy a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice or a mint tea (the berber whisky! Yummmmy!). Breakfast is delicious and served by the smiley and friendly staff who are always there to help and make sure you get the best!

Forgot to mention dinner is also available on request and Souad, the chef, is a gem in terms of cooking! I definitely recommend the riad for any kind of travellers - young, older, married or single you will just have an unforgettable experience at Dar Najat. Thank you again, I'm coming back soon and with friends this time!

The charming Riad de l’Orangeraie is located in the Mouassine district of the old Médina. This beautiful house has two courtyards – one with fountains, flowers and trees (Côté Jardin); the other with a small blue mosaic swimming pool and hamman (Côté Oasis).

Around these patios are seven bedrooms, each decorated in warm earth tones and a modern, minimalist style. There are three suites and four standard rooms named after spices. (Paprika, Muscade and Coraindre for the suites; Safran, Gingembre, Cannelle and Curcuma for the standard rooms.) The bathrooms are immaculate: all clean, smooth surfaces and the facilities in perfect working order.

One of the most stunning features of the riad is its roof top terrace, with views over the Medina that stretch as far as the Atlas Mountains. A great place to sip one’s mint tea! The terrace has lots of hidden corners for a discreet spot of sunbathing or to take a romantic meal prepared on demand and to your taste.

Riad staff are attentive, friendly and discreet, playing no small part in creating a familial and relaxed atmosphere.

Well-located for further excursions into the city – which the concierge will happily organise – the riad is only 5 minutes from the main square Djema El Fna.

To stay at the Riad El Cadi is to stay at one of the finest Riads in Marrakech. The interior, with its abundant artwork, is totally astounding. The food, service and ambience make this probably the most enjoyable place I have stayed in the world over.

Lounge around, long after your breakfast is served on your rooftop terrace, sheltering from the sun under your canopy. Sneak out now and again to catch some rays and savour the moment. Come lunchtime, stretch and slowly make your way to the main courtyard and lounge once again in one of the decorated alcoves, while sipping beer and awaiting your freshly made meal.

As evening dawns, slowly make your way to your upstairs, pick up your clothes that you left dirty in the room last night, and wonder if you wore them at all, since they're clean once more. Get dressed, and prepare to be dazzled in Jemaa El Fna, which is just a stones throw away.
