A bike tour of the Franschhoek wine valley was one of the highlights of our stay in South Africa's winelands. Eddie picked us up from our hotel and took us on a beautiful scenic tour - taking in vineyards and a reservoir. You get to see parts you probably wouldn't venture to on your own. He's a lovely guy and takes time to explain recent history as well as the origins of the town. The pace was just right - I imagine he could do something more gruelling if that's your thing! There are other options including winetasting by bike.

The Grand Ridge Road is one of the best drives in Australia. Not really well known out of Victoria, the Grand Ridge is a drive that goes through the rolling hills of East Gippland and the Strezlecki ranges and extends into the Latrobe Valley.
It passes thru one of our states national parks and in the middle is the quaintly named, Mirboo North. Singed by the recent fires, Mirboo North is an ideal place to take a break while motoring along the Grand Ridge Road. A word of warning ... the views along the road are distracting but the road requires concentration from drivers and care and skill to navigate in parts.

Blackthorne Inn bed and breakfast is nestled in a wooded canyon near the charming village of Inverness, California, an hour from San Francisco and the Napa-Sonoma wine country. It provides intimate overnight accommodations in a beautiful rustic setting adjacent to the magnificent Point Reyes National Seashore wilderness park in northern California.

This unique structure resembles a giant elegant treehouse. Crafted from redwood, cedar and a 180-foot Douglas fir cut and milled on the site, the Inn rises through fragrant bay trees to sunny decks on four levels.

A generous buffet style breakfast is provided each morning. Guests may dine privately or together on the 3,500 square foot deck which surrounds the main level, or inside in the glass solarium.

Hot and cold tubs are sunk into an upper deck and one bedroom (The Crow's Nest) is in a tower reached by a spiral staircase. A firehouse pole connects the main deck to the ground.

This train line travels from the north east to Gemas in the south, about half way between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The train line is the east coast line, but has been nicknamed the jungle railway as it runs through the jungle and the national park. The journey itself is beautiful but you must book your train in advance. I failed to do this and ended up on the mail train for 16 hours with no air con. All part of the adventure, but I would recommed the fast train, which takes about 8 hours and is a lot cooler.
