    Mangonui Fish Shop

Posted by nicoffnz 28 June 2009

The world famous Mangonui Fish Shop is situated on piles over the harbour. It is the most popular fish shop in New Zealand. This is because the fish is landed at the wharf next door and filleted on the premises. They cook it, and a good variety of other sea food, wrap it in newsprint and you take it over to a vacant table and enjoy it and the great views.

They have a full liquor license and have several draft beers on tap and a large wine selection which you can buy by the glass.

We were there in early June and thought it was fantastic the place has a great atmosphere and very friendly staff.

    137 Waterfront drive, Mangonui.

    Sobrenatural!

Posted by helenshivers 7 April 2009

I really liked this place. Fresh sea delicacies at a great price and generous portions. Too bad they didn’t accept my traveller’s checks. It was a little too much to ask though. They serve good beer and there’s a tasty dish called tidbits or bits or something that is a mix of crab meat, shrimp, octopus and all. So, so good. Check it out. Don’t go by car, you’ll miss the fun of the trolley.

    Dan & Louis Oyster Bar

Posted by nitwittery 26 February 2009

Another 'Old Town' favourite; Dan and Louis' is where to go when you want to try some local seafood in Portland.

Do not be fooled by the name - D&L's is a family-friendly restaurant with a diverse menu that features some of the freshest local ingredients. The clam chowder is classic and the Cioppino is a particular favourite, but if you are an oyster afficianado, you cannot miss out on the dozen varieties of oysters offered here.

The decor is classic Pacific Northwest fish house: every inch of wall space is covered with marine-related memorabilia, much of it collected over the restaurant's 100 year history.

For adults, there is a separate bar in back and make sure you ask about 'the hole' - a glass-covered look into almost bottomless pit - right below the bar.

    Phil's Fish Market

Posted by johnsannaee 8 February 2009

Located in an old fishing shack, complete with corrugated iron roof, next to a power plant, Phil's doesn't have the most select location on the California coastline. However, its reputation as one of the finest seafood restaurants in the area keeps it full throughout the week. Order at the counter and sit down at a table in the simple yet pleasant dining areas and before long a feast will be delivered to you. Massive portions of the highest quality fish and seafood (and a few other options) provide you with a meal that manages to be both subtle and hearty, and ensure before long you'll have forgotten the location and fallen in love with the food.

7600 Sandholdt Rd, Moss Landing, CA 95039. Off Highway 1 halfway between Santa Cruz & Monterey.
