Essentially this is a bread stick sandwich with the typical Spanish potato omelette. The aspect that makes it different in Valencia is that the bread is liberally spread/loaded with alioli - a garlic mayonnaise which is just perfect for the aforementioned sandwich.

Anywhere in the city of Valencia. My favourite was a bar down one of the side streets near the train station. It was called Bar Turia. Well worthwhile - a good beer with the sandwich dripping garlic at a decent price.

Forget what you've read in a guide book or heard in whispers, the best frites in Brussels can be found at Place St. Josse. Choose lashings of mayonnaise, pili-pili, cocktail sauce, ketchup or just au natural. Check it out, you will not be sorry!

Freshly-caught fried fish, sandwiched between crusty bread, onion optional. Eat it while sitting at infant-sized tables facing the Golden Horn. Costs less than a pound, tastes great.

Get off the tram at Karaköy, turn around with Sultanahmet behind you, cross the road, walk past the fish market and jetty until you come to tables and chairs set out on the grass. Sit down and wait for the server to notice you.

The best ice-cream in Rio - a small chain of posh ice-cream parlours. The one I went to was on the fanciest shopping street in Ipanema, which has a cafe. Try all those exotic fruits (e.g. pitanga) that you should also be tasting at the street juice bars, but in ice-cream!
