I travel a lot and I like to stay in hostels, because you usually get better quality in a nice hostel than in a cheap hotel. Truly one of the best hostels in Europe is the Lisbon Lounge Hostel.
Stunning, stylish. Everything is brand new and you’ll enjoy your stay the most. Check the pictures and you'll see I'm not overstating!

Sangria is a cool restaurant and bar built around an old tree on the banks of the Nile. Enjoy a view of Zamalek from the open terrace, which during winter months is well heated. The cuisine is mostly South-East Asian and the crowd tends to be mainly young and wealthy, judging by the posh cars in the restaurant carpark. It's a great place for a beer.

On the opposite side of the road from the Conrad Hilton towards the Arkadia Shopping Centre.
Da>Space is China's first and only street art gallery, and it's also a stylish shop selling t-shirts and design toys. It's a new concept for China, a meeting place for young Chinese creatives and a fun place to hang out whenever the hectic city gets too much! The owners are friendly and speak Chinese and English.

Sleek and stylish are the watchwords with this hotel, a converted Greek church in the heart of the city, where you are guaranteed a luxurious stay. Fabulous.

Sip champagne at the Planet Bar at the Mount Nelson Hotel and experience the grandeur of the Cape's colonial era. The Planet Bar has recently been refurbished and is a very glamourous way to begin or end your evening. Great cocktails overlooking beautiful gardens.
Small, stylish bar with a young and relaxed atmosphere. Monthly electronic music sessions by cremeweiss.

Most certainly THE place to be seen in Shanghai, this classy split bar and restaurant has magnificent views over the Bund and the Pudong skyline.
You can't be seen coming here by public transport. Taxi - find No.5 The Bund (at the corner of Guangdong Lu) and head up to the 7th floor. www.m-onthebund.com/
Staying at this intimate boutique hotel in the swanky Condesa district is like being inside an iPod. Sparkling white, curvy and beautifully designed, the hotel is modern, minimal Mexico (which sounds like a paradox), staffed by groovy, black-suited Gael Garcia Bernal look-alikes. The best things are the roof-top bar, a funky patio restaurant, rooms with individual arthouse DVD libraries, and refreshingly low prices. I also loved the house rules, which sternly stipulate: "No weapons, no animals, and no musicians".

Shanghai is all about the petty things in life. What you do, who you're with and where you're seen. Never who you actually are. And nowhere sums up this decadent philosophy more than Park 97. Without question THE place to be when the sun goes down, it's a restaurant, it's a bar, it's a nightclub and it's a statement.
2A Gaolan Lu, Sinan Lu, near Fuxing Park. Too cool even to be dropped off by taxi, you really need your own chauffeur. Tel: 00 86 21 5383 2328
You can't miss this hotel, in every sense. Taking up the 53rd to the 87th floors of one of the world's tallest buildings (at 1,380ft it's just a tad shorter than Chicago's Sears tower), the Jin Mao Tower boasts what is probably the highest cocktail bar around. There are also panoramic views across the city - assuming you can see past the smog. It's not that cheap -the rooms are at least 2,600RMB (over £170) - but you can stump up 50RMB for a visitor's ticket and sneak in a quick Martini and a few photos.

Not everyone likes the dingy cavern setting of this often very crowded nightclub; more, however, appreciate the 100RMB entry tax on a Friday which includes free drinks all night. Live music and DJs too.
