    Country fair

Posted by podniltwo 24 March 2008

A fabulous slice of country - delicious burgers, handsome sheepdogs, coconut ice, earnest pony club displays, crimplene dresses, huntspersons in full regalia, and best of all - ferret racing!

    Going nocturnal...

Posted by JaneSpain 31 August 2006

In August the temperature is around 40º (104F), but by midnight it drops to about 30º (80F). This is when the locals start to go out and they stay out till 6am. It's worth staying up to sit in an outdoor cafe at 4am, particularly near the river, and definitely worth having a big siesta.

    Summer activities

Posted by SusieH 8 February 2006

Whistler is buzzing in the summer. You can swim or wakeboard in Alta Lake, hike up to Singing Pass or Rainbow Lake, or tackle one of the challenging mountain bike trails, which are graded in the same way as ski runs. Kids can be transformed into trapeze artists at the base of Blackcomb or can hurtle down the hill on the luge.

    Five Day Lift Pass

    Posted by stewart1 25 October 2005

If you buy a five day lift pass it works out far cheaper than any other options available to you. I bought one this summer on a Mountain Biking holidays. It got me to the top of some amazing trails, whilst saving money!

Most of the villages around Valencia have outdoor swimming pools which open during the summer months (July and August). These are incredibly cheap (less than a couple of euros to get in) and you can spend the whole day there.

The easiest ones to get to are those served by Valencia’s metro. Try Rocafort (right next to the station), Moncada (a bit of trek from the station, but in a nice location on top of a hill) or Betera (quite far from central Valencia, but the swimming pool is one of the best).

Pub On The Park, London Fields

Posted by snapshotMal 26 September 2005

It was once my local pub. I was born and bred in London Fields, and this was a beacon of the community: good beer, a boules pit in the back garden and, during the summer, local cricket or football. Someone generally has a guitar or sings a song and people listen while chilling on the grass.

It was an intimate, friendly place - it's lost its intimacy because it's more popular now, but its still a great place for a summer day's relaxing. Take a picnic...

    Spring skiing and snowboarding

Posted by SusieH 4 February 2006

If you haven't had your fix of snow come May, book yourself a late-season trip. Although Blackcomb closes on April 23rd, Whistler mountain remains open until June 4th.

The snow may be on the slushy side, but skiing or boarding in a T-shirt and finishing the day off with a few beers on the Roundhouse patio is pretty awesome.

Powder in May is certainly not unheard of and, the way things are going so far (a record 469cm in January alone!), is looking increasingly likely this season.

One-day spring season tickets are just CAN$46, a bargain compared with the whopping CAN$75 charged over Christmas. And if you still want more, Blackcomb reopens in the summer for glacier skiing and riding, usually until late July or early August.
