    Activities for gay visitors

Posted by Holander 25 July 2008

If you have never been to BA, I encourage a journey here. A fabulous city with wonderful people. It is true what people say, Buenos Aires is the Paris of South America. Incredible art, architecture, design, shopping, restaurants, men...Speaking of men, my trip would not have been nearly as wonderful without the incredible tour guide and the great activities that 2 Portenios offer, They are very professional and offer a great serevice, you MUST connect with them, who are pros at giving touristas an authentic point of view through their activities.

You want to experience Barcelona in a completely different way? Then participate at one of Cooltra's City tours on a scooter. I have done that on my last trip in this beautiful city and it was crazy! It is like being a local person, driving to places you couldn't reach normally and a great alternative to the tourist bus. You should live this experience, I recommend it!

    Have a look at www.cooltra.com
You can find the Cooltra Motos Shop right in front of the Barceloneta Beach.

    Trekking and walking trips

    Posted by foren83 15 October 2007

Florence and Tuscany in general are two of the best Italian regions where you can take part in active and outdoor sports.

The best path is the 'Via Francigena', an historical itinerary leading to Rome from Canterbury.

The main attractions to see are:
    - Florence
    - Siena
    - Val d’Elsa (presented in the books of Dante and Boccaccio)
    - Certaldo
    - San Gimignano (declared by UNESCO to be part of the 'World's Architectural Heritage')
    - The Chianti region

    Byzas tours

Posted by Jantraveller 23 July 2007

I hired Byzas tours to bring me to both Ephesus and Cappadocia from Istanbul because I only had eight days in Istanbul and did not want to waste any time organising it all.

I found them to be affordable and flexible. I got to do what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it, but all I had to think about was being in my hotel lobby at a certain time. The guides were educated and interesting to talk to.

Some websites suggest doing things yourself, but there is so much history in Turkey that only a guide can put it in perspective (unless you plan on carrying a library with you).

Also, I compared Byzas' prices to the cost of doing it all myself separately, and it barely cost any more ... it might have been the same with all the things I didn't have to worry about such as highway tolls.

If you are planning trip to Prague or Czech republic I believe that Athos Travel could really help you. Their website with many usefull information (guide, map) also offer online booking for hotels, apartments, transfers or tours. The best of all is their really personal attitude to clients. They are able to help with almost any request, suggest the best place to stay or to eat. I suggest to go through their Special offers section, where you could find really good deals.

    Hungarian Parliament

    Posted by ml2hjs 15 February 2006

The Hungarian Parliament offers free tours for EU citizens on presentation of their passport. Tours are available several times each day in English. The building is similar to the Palace of Westminster, but is far grander and much more ornate in places. The building also houses the 'Crown Jewels' of Hungary (although these are not in the same league to those in the Tower of London). Viewing these artefacts is part of the tour, however the building itself is much more impressive and well worth a visit.

    Backpackers Travellers Inn

Posted by leopold 3 January 2006

Though not much to look at from the outside (just a steel gated door leading up some stairs) the Backpackers Travellers Inn is THE place to be for the budget traveller. Located in the heart of Chinatown, near the markets of Petaling St, the BTI claims to be the first backpacker hostel in KL and provides all the usual hostel amenities, including tourist information and organised tours to the local Batu Caves, etc. These are supplemented by the wide range of local facilities, including banks, shops and the bizarrely named Despotic Salon. There's no curfew, and the rooftop bar (four or five storeys up) provides an excellent spot to meet fellow travellers and have a cool beer (this is all they sell) while looking out over Kuala Lumpur. A very welcoming and lively venue.

    Organised tours

Posted by originalbob 16 December 2005

Arrange a private tour through your hotel if you want to see the grand palace or canals. It might cost a bit more but it will be just your small group and the tour guide, rather than a group of 100 other tourists. We had an amazing day out and learnt a great deal. When you see the coach loads of people turning up and being dragged around, you wonder how much they can actually hear.

A boat trip on the Bosphorus

Posted by drewlio 26 October 2005

My wife and I did this a few years back. We set out and watched the sunset over the Golden Horn. The ferries themselves are of a shabbily romantic variety, with all walks of Istanbul life crowded aboard.

One word of warning, however: make sure your ferry is returning to Istanbul! With slowly dawning panic, we became aware that our poor grasp of Turkish and ferry routemaps had put us on a one-way trip to the Black Sea.

Once we had realised this, we were halfway down the Bosphorus (having ogled many a fortress along the way) and more than a little worried. Fortunately, it was an all-stopper and we disembarked at an unnamable little town past the glassworks with a lively looking square.

We found a local store where they told us where to find a bus heading back to Taksim Square. Very kindly, they gave us a pair of bus tickets to get back.

Unfortunately, when we caught the bus, it turned out we needed three each! No worries, a collection was taken up and the passengers on the bus made up our deficit! It was amazing to be rescued and no one would accept any payment in exchange for their tickets. We sat sheepishly and grinned like idiots for the whole hour and a half journey back to the city.

It was dark, very late and we were very tired when we got back, but we had had quite an adventure. We will never forget the kindness of the Turkish people!

These guys are township specialists and one of the first to show the "other" side of Cape Town. They'll take you into New Rest and show you a really personal tour. This is highly recommended and a real eye opener.
