A tiny village in Snowdonia, easily accessible by train from the north of England with loads of charm and beautiful scenery. The area is dominated by outdoor activities, including mountainbiking, watersports and abseiling.

The centre of the village is dominated by a beautiful waterfall which runs under a high bridge into a deep pool - jump from the bridge if you're brave enough, but be warned; it's very, very cold in there...

Once when I was staying at Sheffield with my Grandma, and it was a beautiful sunny day. We had been looking for a exploring stream, but also one that we could enjoy the lovley sunshine. Then I asked if we could go to Padley Gorge. We went there, and it was beautiful! The swirly, twirly water was shallow and deep, so my younger 5 year old brother could paddle. The stream is in the middle of a valley overlooking the rocky ravines and paths. Not to mention the breathtaking waterfall!

After having a paddle, we all decided to go up one of the rocky paths. After walking for fifteen minutes, we came across a water spring leading down to the stream we had explored earlier. We followed it up, and where the spring started, we found a saucepan that someone had hung on the end of a tree. My little brother filled it up, watering all the nearby trees. After that we went down the hill back to the path. I saw some rocks on the way the car covered in moss. They were Lovely. I sat down on a rock. I thought: "I'm telling all my friends about this place. I'ts sooo lovely." And that is what i'm doing. Five star place, and all free!

National Trust estate of Longshaw, path leading to Grindleford station. Meals and snacks are nearby. Bues run from Sheffield to Fox house pub.

Molina is a medieval village at the junction between three valleys in steep wooded mountainside about half an hour from Negrar. The village itself is charming. The old houses reflect the style of the western Lessinia, and its botanical museum in the main square has a fine exhibition of local flora.

But the main attraction is the walk down to the park for breathtaking views of the walls of nude rock and the roaring waterfalls. For the bravest we recommend a play on the swing which takes you right up to one of the waterfalls. Pay for your ticket in the village before you start the walk downhill (it costs a 50 cents less that way, the full price is 3 euros). You should wear good walking shoes - it can be slippery and bear in mind that when you get down to the last waterfall, you've got a long walk back up again. There is a bar at the beginning of the walk so anyone who prefers to can stay there and wait for the others to return.

And to finish off the day why not have a look at some local produce in the little shop and try the friendly and reasonably priced restaurant in the main square. We recommend it!

    Day Trip to Rheinfalls

Posted by TravelsWise 22 December 2006

The Rheinfalls is the largest waterfall in Europe. Located about 1/2 hour by car and under 1 hour by train from Zurich, they are a great day trip when you are visiting this pretty city. What is particularly interesting is how close you can get to the falls. There is a platform extending out over the water so that you can feel the power of the water as it rushes beneath you. If you still have not had enough, you can take a boat excursion right to the foot of the falls and even disembark and climb stairs to the top of a huge rock that is sitting squarely in the middle of the falls. For the less adventurous, there is a nice cafe that is well positioned so that you can enjoy watching the others while you stay warm inside.

    Cascads D'ouzoud

Posted by doriandermo 11 December 2006

Get a grand taxi to these amazing waterfalls, about 2 hours drive from Marrakech. The most impressive waterfalls in Morocco, they are a welcome break from the madness of the souk. An added bonus are the mischievous barbary apes in the surrounding countryside.

Ask any petit taxi driver to take you to the grand taxi depot for cascads d'ouzoud. Grand taxis only leave when filled (6 people, 4 in the back and 2 in the front passenger seat!). However, if you're willing to pay the cost of six people, you can leave right away.

    Kirirom National Park

Posted by KampucheaLibre 23 November 2006

Kirirom is a national park on the road between Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh, on route for anyone coming to Cambodia from Thailand at the Koh Kong crossing. In a country devastated by massive ecological destruction in the 80s and 90s, a visit to Kirirom will give the visitor an idea of what much of the country must have been like before it spiralled into social and political freefall.

It was Sihanouk's personal forest preserve for many years, and later used as a refuge for Khmer Rouge guerillas. These two factors help explain why the forest has emerged more or less unscathed. A paved road brings you into the park proper, leading to a series of dirt roads and walking paths that take you into beautiful deciduous and tropical coniferous forests with minimal undergrowth.

A buddhist monastery and crystal clear ponds can be found at the top of the mountain. Beyond Kirirom, the forest becomes inaccessible and is home to much of the country's remaining population of large fauna, including elephants and tigers. Don't count on seeing any animals, they have learned to avoid human poachers and it is nearly impossible to penetrate deep into the park. Nonetheless, temperatures here are relatively cool all year and the air is fresh and clean.

Some of the waterfalls near the paved road are frequented by Cambodians on weekend visits. Unfortunately, many of these Lexus SUV-borne day visitors have not learned the virtues of bringing out their garbage when they leave. If you avoid these obvious spots, you can find beautiful settings and relatively pristine nature.

    Teuk Chhou Falls

Posted by BennydeLotz 21 November 2006

A visit to the Teuk Chhou Falls is highly recommended, around 12kms from the centre of Kampot. A beautiful spot to while away a hot day, cooling off in the clear river or eating roast chicken with morning glory and rice on one of the many bamboo platforms which are built hanging over the edge of the river. A meal of whole roast chicken enough to feed four with vegetables, rice and beer (plenty) will set you back about $20. Local motos (we recommend Krang, he lives near Little Garden) in Kampot can take you there for no more than $7 round trip. Invite your moto to eat with you, this is part of the pleasure and allows you to meet the locals.

12kms northeast of Kampot - along with Teuk Chhou Zoo.

What to do in Black River

Posted by Jamaicasouth 25 October 2006

You can go rafting on the Black River which is the longest river in Jamaica where you can see Manatee and Crocodiles.

You can also visit the YS Falls and the very picturesque Holland Bamboo which is a cove of bamboos stretching for miles along the road.

The locals are very polite and friendly. All this is still some of the virgin attractions, this is the paradise for relaxation which will embalm your mind and captivate your spirit.

    YS Falls

Posted by fatjim 23 October 2006

A waterfall which you can swim in with rope swings to swing and jump off. It's great fun and the water is cool and so a lovely break from the heat.

I hired a scooter from Negril and went on my own. I had a small tourist map, it's easy to find as it's well signposted. Also the journey from Negril is great with a good opportunity to see towns and countryside away from the tourist areas. Leave jewellery at home and take just money for they day. Alternatively most hotels will do coach trips there.

    YS Falls

Posted by jammin 23 October 2006

Ignore the horribly tourist-clogged Dunns River Falls on the north coast, and drive to YS Falls, buried away in lush tropical parkland on an old family stud farm. Guides are there to help you on to vine swings for some Tarzan action, and you can buy a Red Stripe and a beef pattie, but that’s about as commercialised as it gets. Go early in the morning and you may even get the whole place to yourself.

    Erawan Waterfalls

Posted by lucyd 3 October 2006

A series of seven picturesque waterfalls falling over 1500m with clear turquoise pools for swimming. Popular with locals and tourists, the lower pools can get quite busy, but paths and wooden footbridges lead up through the jungle to the quieter pools further up.

65km from Kanchanaburi - buses run daily and lots of guesthouses and travel agencies offer day trips. 200 baht National Park entry fee.

I would recommend that everyone should take a tour of both the Argentine side of the falls and also the Brazilian side

Many tour operaters in Buenos Aires will be able to advise you on which trips to take.

    Cascatas do Arado

Spectacular waterfalls with suspended lagoons. The water is crystal clear and not at all cold. The river bed is worth climbing during the summer. Make sure to take your swimsuit, comfortable shoes (that you can use in the water is preferable) and, of course, your camera!
