Sit in the wooden steam box to open the pores, then climb into a huge, hot seawater bath full of slippery seaweed - like bathing in olive oil. Rinse with a freezing cold shower, operated by pulling a big handle.

This fabulous Edwardian bathhouse, founded in 1912, has enormous porcelain baths with brass taps dispensing piped saltwater. Incredibly relaxing and very authentic, you'll come out cleaner and happier than you could imagine.

A must in the wonderful northwest - have an evening bath after a walk on the beach and a pint.

Very good Italian restaurant that doesn't blow its own trumpet and so is relatively unknown. A bit of an oasis in the food desert of Westminster. Fantastic service (ask for any advice on the wine) and delicious food, but it's the cheeseboard in particular that keeps me coming back.

It's no ordinary restaurant. Before you enter, you select one of six menus, which are described by sensation and story. You are then led by your blind waiter into a darkened dining room - utterly dark, you can see nothing at all. Not a sausage. Nada. It is all about eating without sight, a remarkable sensation for anyone used to seeing the colour and texture of their food. I've never been anywhere like it.
