A treasure trove for foodies, this small shop in the market town of Nantwich boasts groaning shelves of cakes, chocolates, cheese biscuits, olives, jams and chutneys. It has a pork butchers at the front but make your way down the long narrow shop to the wonderful coffee shop at the rear. £3.50 for a cafetiere (enough for four ) of any blend of excellent coffee you choose.

    The Pheasant -Higher Burwardsley

Posted by Bellini 20 March 2006

A pub with rooms and great food. There are 10 en-suite bedrooms with fantastic views across the Cheshire plain. The food is great, popular with walkers along the Sandstone Trail footpaths, so large portions at reasonable prices.

Higher Burwardsley near Beeston and Peckforton castles. Signposted off the Tattenhall-Burwardsley road. Turn by the Post office in Burwardsley village

    The Manly ferry

Posted by Bellini 19 January 2006

Take the trip on the Manly ferry from Circular Quay. Walk down the Corso (directly ahead when you leave the ferry terminal), turn right along the promenade (ocean beaches) and walk to Shelley Beach. Stop off at Le Kiosk for Moreton Bay 'bugs' or sashimi.

Try to time your return for nightfall for great views of the city lights.

    Central Cottage Industries Emporium

Posted by Bellini 6 November 2005

Before returning home from Delhi, shop for souvenirs at the central Cottage Industries Emporium in Janpath (Jawahar Vyapar Bhawan). This is shopping as it should be: relaxed and stress-free. No haggling involved and no hard sell. You present your purchases as you go along, you're given a receipt and then you collect everything together at the end, on production of all your receipts when you pay for everything at once and in return your purchases are carefully wrapped, ready for you to pack in your suitcase. Brilliant!

    Plaza de Mayo

Posted by Bellini 6 November 2005

The government mansion, Casa Rosada, stands at one end of the small park. Outlines of human figures are painted in white, each has a name and the date when that person 'disappeared'. On Thursdays, the mothers of the disappeared come to the square to demonstrate silently.

At 6pm everyday the Grenadiers march out of the Casa Rosada. They goose-step out of the main entrance, across the road into Plaza de Mayo where they take down the Argentinian flag from its pole.

    El Caminito

Posted by Bellini 6 November 2005

It's the place you associate with Buenos Aires, where the houses are painted in electric pinks, blues, yellows and greens. Buy a small painting from the local artists as a souvenir.

    Dorsoduro

Posted by Bellini 6 November 2005

I love this part of Venice. It's a little off the beaten track even though the Peggy Guggenheim Museum and the Accademia are only a few blocks away.

Stroll the quiet streets and escape the crowds and for a genuine trip in a gondola for a fraction of the price take a tragetto across to S. Maria Griglio. Be sure to stand up though - sitting is frowned upon.

    Hotel Phoenix

Posted by Bellini 6 November 2005

A delightful old-style hotel in the heart of the city. Try to get a room overlooking the internal courtyard as the street side is noisy. An ancient wooden lift with great ironmongery takes you slowly to your floor.
