    Kalithea Bay

Posted by Charlo 9 June 2006

This is the only place on the island to go scuba diving – the rest of the island is unsuitable for the purpose. What you will find is akin to a fabulous underwater grotto. The water in the bay gently gets deeper, but the real magic is when the rocks turn into shallow shelves under the water, about 10 metres off the shore. You can snorkel here quite happily here in less than 2 feet of water, with the sun on your back, chasing fish, as I did.

    Rhodes old town

Posted by Charlo 9 June 2006

The old town of Rhodes is a beautiful walled town with narrow cobbled streets and some wonderful looking restaurants nestled in the walls of a palace. I also saw an old man feeding a group of cats down at Mandrake Harbour, which is also gorgeous. There is a bizarre aquarium down there with a selection of embalmed and living sea animals - most notably a rather large shark which haunted me when I went scuba diving later on in the holiday.

The whole island is lovely and only about 50 miles wide, so you can get around easily - and all the taxi drivers seem to drive Mercedes and are about 105 years old.

    Santa Maria del Mar

Posted by Charlo 8 September 2005

The Santa Maria del Mar is a beautiful church in the Barri Gottic area of Barcelona. It is just gorgeous and is as all churches should be: right in the centre of the city, not hidden behind grounds or mysterious gates. Inside it is so peaceful and surprisingly dark in comparison to the bustling street and bright blue skies of outside. There is a beautiful stain glass window, which glows like jewels in the wall. Also on a summer Sunday, the streets come alive with the brightly coloured gowns of wedding guests and the streets are littered with rose petal confetti.

    Rent an apartment

Posted by Charlo 8 September 2005

When in Barcelona I have always rented an apartment. You get to live like a local, at half the price of a hotel and you can be right in the centre. I always like to stay in Barri Gottic area as this is best located for the beach and all the tourist attractions as well as being one of the prettiest parts of Barecelona.

I have used this company twice and they have very beautiful apartments but make sure you confirm how many rooms are in an apartment as pictures can be deceptive: www.tourismbarcelona.com
