Whenever I hear something described as a "best kept secret" I usually find it's because it's so bad it should never be mentioned. However, the Murray Hill Inn really is a gem of a find. Found in, not surprisingly, mid-town Murray Hill, it is a good quality, clean hotel for the not-quite-budget, but not flushed-with-cash traveller. Prices are about $28 a night. The lobby did remind me of a hostel, but the rooms are a good size, and most are ensuite. The area is quiet, safe and in easy reach of 5th shops and SoHo boutiques.
