Spread over a number of floors with erm gas lamps providing illumination, this bar has a really nice vibe and a great roof terrace with views of the Armenian Cathedral and Town Hall.
The beer was good and the cocktails bizarrely came served in laboratory beakers, but the beer snacks were excellent. One word of warning: the very steep stairs after a few!
Open 11 - 02

Dzyga is an arty cafe-bar at the northern end of Virmenska. You can't miss it as the street is a dead end and the bar is at the very end! It's only a stones throw from the Rynok and is quieter and has some nice views. It's a nice place to start or end the night sitting outside in the atmospheric old Armenian quarter. If it's not the weather to sit outside the inside was cool too with lots of local art on display. The beer was a good local wheatbeer and washed down the pork fat in chocolate perfectly - which is not as bad as it sounds - I had to give it a try. The rest of the food that we tried (the bar was located just below our apartment) was good - the breakfast and ice-cream mainly!

An independent apartment rental agency with some fantastic flats in Lviv.

We stayed in one for four nights on Virmenska, it was beautiful and the pictures of the sight did not do it justice at all. The price was excellent value for such an atmospheric and central location.

We changed travel plans and stayed in Lviv again on our return journey and stayed in another of the agency's apartments on The Rynok. This was a modern airy apartment with a great view over the main square.

Both apartments were spacious and well decorated. They had TV, DVD and kitchens as well as a washing machine.

Svetlana, the company contact in Ukraine was very very helpful throughout and gave me some other tips for our trip into the Carpathians and Ivano Frankivsk.

The preferred method for payment of deposit was Western Union, but if you don't like that then I negotiated to use a company in the UK to pay by credit card.

Where else can you stay in a tower? Ve Vezi is a great little pension at great prices; full of character and charm. The accommodation is fairly basic, though the room had a TV and fridge - for the price Ve Vezi is a bargain.

The pension is situated by the river right next to the Eggenberg brewery, which has its own pub and restaurant serving up their lovely beer and Czech staples. Within a couple of hundred yards you're in the thick of Cesky Krumlov's cobbled streets.

Marta the owner is fantastic and very helpful.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Ve Vezi.

An amazing house (dar) in the medina. It's been beautifully restored by the very friendly owner Maria. During our stay in the house we were looked after by an amazing and friendly housekeeper Attaib. This place really has that wow factor and was a real 'home' to return to after a day in the bustle of the medina.

Meals can be prepared for you by a neighbour and it really is worth taking up this offer as her food was some of the best we had at some of the best prices!

A bar housed in a former garage - hence the name (Brakes and Clutches). Just across the bridge into Trastevere this small bar spills out into a little square, with candles burning and throngs of good looking people perched on the wall surrounding the square.

The bar had a real buzz, which is what first draws the attention from the bottom of the steps, I found it to be a really friendly little bar with a good mix of patrons, the staff were friendly too and only too happy to help.

Cocktails are a speciality and the mojitos were amazing especially on a hot summers evening - the whole cocktail list looked fantastic and there seemed a good wine list too, although regrettably I didn't sample any. There was also a very tempting buffet on offer which looked much better than the second rate tourist crap I'd just eaten.

The decor of the place was a juxtaposition between the futuristic and reclaimed which created a unique ambience.
