    Hikes above the Cote d'Azur

Posted by GoranLondon 24 April 2012

GR51 hiking trail is known as Balcony of the Cote d’Azur and a part of it passes through some of the highest coastal villages in France. It is possible to do the St Agnes-Gorbio hike on a day trip from Nice by taking a train to Menton followed by a bus ride to the beautiful St Agnes. The Grobio trek via the highest peak in between two villages takes up to six hours with breathtaking views of the coast, sea, Alpes Maritime and Italy. The public transport from Gorbio gets in in time for a short wander through the gorgeous Menton and a seafood dinner in many of its restaurants.

Renting a car is a must for exploring the beautiful rugged western Crete - all doable on day trips from a charming Venetian town of Chania. Our favourite outings were Samaria Gorge, Gramvousa and Elafonisi. Samaria Gorge for a change of scenery and sightings of wild goat Kri Kri; relax to follow after the day hike in the laid back coastal village of Agia Roumeli. Explore the hills above the Balos beach for wonderful pre-sunset views of Gramvousa Peninsula. Drive to Elafonisi via the Agia Sofia cave; enjoy paradise settings of Elafonisi with its warm sands and shallow, blue/green hued waters; then back via the spectacular NW coastal drive. Late summer should be a perfect time to visit - the crowds are gone (not that it’s ever too busy) and the weather is good well into early autumn.
We stayed at Frida for easy access to everything.

    Motorbike Trip

Posted by GoranLondon 3 March 2010

Rent a scooter (USD10 per day) to see a striking world of culture, history, architecture and astonishing natural beauty that is a sharp contrast to commercialism of Southern Bali resorts. A two day adventure will take you to the old cultural capital, monkey rain forests, dormant volcanoes, azure blue lakes, terraced rice fields, botanic gardens, waterfalls, hot springs, temples: the holiest one, one in the lake and another in the sea and through villages that changed little in the past 50 years – all that while air perfumed with cloves and roast coffee blows in your face. Or take a bike and the guide for USD30 per day – try Teguh or his brother, hell’s angels with heart of gold!
