For food, Robert's Oyster Bar on the seafront cannot be beaten. Buy a pint next door and drink it with a dozen Colchester Natives.

A fantastic vegetarian restaurant tucked away in the old town; I once spotted Sir Paul McCartney tucking in.
A seafood restaurant with variable food but black tie staff and a grandeur straight out of the 20s.
Genuinely grand, even if no one can afford to stay there.
