The Nurburgring is Germany's most famous Formula 1 racing circuit, and has been since the 1950s. It is only 45 minutes drive from Cologne, and is located in the very pretty Eifel mountains.
The "Nordschleife" is the old part of the track, which is now open to the public. Here you can take your own car - be it a Ferrari or an old banger - for a furiously fast drive, and see whether you beat any of the local record holders. It's great fun, and might just be something for those days when you've had enough of football
