Just a short train ride from Sydney, the Blue Mountains National Park is well worth a visit. The scenery is stunning and there are pleanty of fantastic walks in the area. A perfect place to get away from it all.
Take a suburban train to Katoomba (the areas main town) from Sydney Central station. There is roughly one train an hour. Journey time is about 2hrs.
Visit the Ginza district on a Sunday. The streets are closed to traffic and it's a great time to stroll around the area with it's many shops. Perfect for people watching!
Ginza is well connected to both underground and overland train services. The nearest station is, not suprisingly, called Ginza.
If you are visiting more of Japan then grab a Japan Rail Pass. This can be used on JR lines in Tokyo such as the Yamanote loop line. When I went I used it all the time to get around the city, which saved significantly on travel. It is only worth getting though if you are going to be travelling beyond the city, otherwise it's rather pricey.
Available in Japan at major railway stations for various time periods (eg 7 days, or a month).
Take a walk in Shinjuku at night. An awe-inspiring sight as this area of the capital becomes a neon wonderland! It has to be seen to be believed.
Shinjuku is easy to get to. It's on several JR lines including the important Yamanote line, as well as several subway lines.
