    The Saturday market

Posted by NoodleKing 29 May 2007

If you're in the area, make the time to visit this brilliant market, which takes over the town centre and the surrounding streets.

You'll find something for everybody here, from ceramics to jewellery to textiles and meat 'delicacies' you'd probably never wish to try - remember to take your camera too!

    Saturdays.
2 hours from Quito, so can be done as a day trip.
Worth staying a few nights though, to explore the surrounding area, including the volcano, Cotopaxi.

    Getting to the beach

Posted by NoodleKing 20 March 2007

Don't bother with the noisy trams, take the bus instead. It's cheaper, a LOT quicker and more comfortable.

Bus stops all along Gran Via Marques del Turia (2 mins from railway station/5 mins Plaza el Ayuntamiento).

    Pension Francia

Posted by NoodleKing 15 January 2007

A charming little pension (budget hotel), run by two sisters, located just on the edge of the El Born district. A great option if you're on a budget.

Rooms - some ensuite, some shared facilities - are bright and airy, basic, but clean and comfortable. Rooms with balconies benefit from plenty of natural light but little noise, considering how close it is to the bustling Born bars and cafes.

Due to the age of the building, there is no lift, so it's a walk up about four flights of stairs to the Pension, which takes up the top two floors. Works of the tapas though!

Carrer de Rera Palau 4 - corner of Placa Olles and a 2 minute walk from Port Vell.

    'Escape to Prague' apartments

Posted by NoodleKing 10 January 2007

This company has 12 apartments - sleeping between 2 and 10 people - coverted from fabulous old buildings. Most are based within a few minutes of the centre of Prague, so are great for short weekend breaks.

It's been over 18 months since I visited - we stayed in Wenceslas 3- but they've added several new apartments since then, so business must be good.

They have an office in England and also a chap based in Prague who will meet you at your apartment.

    Great value for great locations.

    La Tastaolletes restaurant

Posted by NoodleKing 9 January 2007

If you've eaten enough tortilla (I love the stuff, but one has a limit!), then head here for some great veggie tapas and also main meals.

Closed on Sunday and Monday for dinner.

Calle Salvador Giner 6, near Plaza del Carmen (north of Barrio del Carmen).
