Mint Museum of Craft and Design

Posted by Pnlon 24 June 2007

Located in a renovated department store in Centre City Charlotte, this museum is one of the few in the country to focus on contemporary craft.

From glass, to ceramics, fibre, wood and metal, all the stars (and those up and comers) in the craft world are exhibited here.

The museum traces the history of craft from the 19th Century to today's modern industrial design.

Don't forget that the entry ticket can be used for free entry to the Mint Museum of Art.

Admission is free on Tuesday from 10am-2pm and the third Thursday of the month from 5-8pm.

    The Coffee Cup

Posted by Pnlon 22 June 2007

A simple Southern soul sood restaurant on the edge of Centre City Charlotte, this place as been bringing generations of diners in for its favourites such as Skillet Fried Chicken, Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese.

One of the first integrated restaurants in the South, this place still packs them in for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

You could be sitting next to a construction worker, or the CEO of Bank of America, but everyone gets the same service, and some very true atmosphere.

Come early for lunch during the week or after church.

    Don't miss the banana pudding.

    Concord Mills Shopping Centre

Posted by Pnlon 23 April 2007

Instead of going to New York, which is the most expensive place in the US to shop, try a secondary destination like Charlotte. Concord Mills, a huge outlet shopping centre is only a few miles from the city centre, and has outlets from most of the big name designers you'd find in NYC for much less. (Polo Ralph Lauren, Bannana Republic, Nike, Saks Fifth Avenue, etc) not to mention the sales tax rate is also lower.
