The Marine Building is Vancouver's finest example of art deco architecture and is located downtown, close to the waterfront. You can wander into the foyer to marvel at the wonderful maritime art deco style and travel up in the beautiful wooden lifts. And it's free!

Tucked away in a square in the Born area (near the seafront) is this wonderful little tapas bar. Expect to queue ... in fact the queue is half the fun as it snakes up and down and around the bar. You can drink while you queue and enjoy the atmosphere. When you come to order, if you don't speak Spanish, just indicate that you want it all. The food will keep coming until you signal you've had enough! All food is cooked fresh in front of you and the staff are a lot of fun.

A lovely boutique hotel quite close to the old part of the city and in walking distance of Khao San Road. It is run by a mother and son team who are welcoming and attentive. Together they have created an oasis of calm in this hot, frenetic city.
The rooms are beautiful and themed. We stayed in the lemongrass room, which had furniture made from reclaimed wood. The hotel even has a green policy.
The homemade breakfasts include Thai porridge and the most amazing array of fresh fruit you can imagine.
Room prices are good compared to bigger hotels and breakfast and all refreshments are included.
On our last night, Joey (the son) even gave us a lift to his favourite restaurant where we had an amazing meal.

I travelled to New York by car from another state. No one warned me not to park on the street. My car was broken into twice (two nights running) before someone told me that I should have parked it in one of the secure car parks. Better advice would probably be not to drive, however if you do need to take a car into New York, I recommend using one of the many lock-up garages.
