Great Tapas style bar in trendy Grunerløkka popular with students and a twenty/thirty-something crowd. Busy in a good way with a relaxed dress-down look and feel.
Jammed when we walked in around 7 pm on a Thursday, but the friendly staff took our names, got us some drinks and suggested we sit on the cushioned window benches outside, which made for a very pleasant, if 40 min/hour, wait for a table.

We (2) ordered a range of Tapas dishes including : Patatas bravas, Tortilla Espanola, Marinated Prawns, Albondigas i krydret tomatsaus (meatballs in tomato sauce), Aspargesbønner i sitronolje (actually green beans not asparagus) and bread and alioli.

All the food was wonderful with the prawns stealing the show.

As is normal in Norway the house red and white was terrific (the Norwegian State buys all the wine sold through 'Wine Monopolies'). Overall the bill was reasonable (for Norway) and the service amiable and prompt.

Would definitely go there again.

Cross road from bus stop and follow dirt road up and over using banana beach signs to guide you.

Beautiful water and sand with a couple of decent bar/cafe's. There is a nudie section up the far end if you want to get naked with all the other middle aged swingers. Expect to pay £8 parasol/lounger combi.

Maria's walls are illustrated with characters from children's fairy tales. This kooky charm extends into the handwritten jotter style menu's.

True to form the food is magical and if the characters could come to life they would surely follow cartoon wafts of delicious food all the way to your table. Pizza's are fantastic with a choice of mozzarella or feta cheese with more or less what ever else you want (the feta one is better). Feta stuffed garlic bread is the best I've ever had and jugs of house red and white are just as good as any of the overpriced bottles.

All this takes place al fresco under the leafy protection of a beautiful Mulberry tree. There is limited seating inside.

Only open at night. Expect to wait for a table at high season. A pizza and salad (both shared between two) + wine came to under €30. There is a great jeweller's/treasure trove next door where you can browse and chat to Harris(the owner) while you are waiting.

A pub overlooking Peckham Rye. It's an old-style bar which has been given a bit of a makeover. However, they've got it just right in not changing too much. It's spacious enough with solid wooden tables at dining hight and a fire in winter.

The main bar is now non-smoking but there's a space out back for the chokers and in summer they open a huge beer garden.

Best of all is the food. Great varied menu featuring mezes, Thai/Chinese food, burgers, salads and roasts.

There's also a decent range of wines.

It's not that cheap but it's worth it for a treat or just to get a seat.

There's a small cover charge overseen by the most friendly bouncers on Earth(really) and the drinks are priced at a song compared to anywhere but Laos. A winner.

Very relaxed and friendly staff will often let you put on your own music and the owner Cyril isn't unknown to host the occasional quiz.

The traffic in BKK is awful and can be at least partially avoided by using the riverboat system. For budgeteers out there the nearest one to Koh San is Tha Pra Atit. The boats operate on a flag system. So you need to look on the map at the pier and figure out which coloured flag boat goes to your destination or indeed stops at the pier you are standing on (you may need to ferry to another pier to get a faster boat). So when the boat arrives look for the flag on the top - if it matches the colour you want then hop on. A conductor clicking a money tray open and closed will come round and take your fare and it helps to have change. Different boats have different prices but they're all dirt cheap. When you arrive at your stop get ready to leap off the boat as they don't tie up for long!! If you are really brave there are boats which traverse the city's canals but good luck with that one.

It's a restaurant come guesthouse situated in Trok Mayom which is an alley that runs parallel to Koh San Road. It does by far and away the best food in that area and they also sell wine by the glass which is difficult to find. For those not yet used to the delights of firey food it does a fab western menu in tandem to the best currys I have ever tasted (try the Massaman). As a guesthouse it's not great but it is cheap.
