Balice (Krakow) is a small airport and the transfer links to the city centre, some 17km away, are sparse, being two local buses or a local taxi. We arranged a transfer over the net the day before departure and, for 25 Euro (about £17) were met at the gate, had our luggage transferred to a very smart limo and were taken directly to the hotel by a native English-speaking driver, son of the owner of the business. Got a running commentary on the sights en-route free. By 10am we were checked-in and exploring the city - no worries. They arrange visits beyond the city boundary too.

This is a tiny restaurant, very intimate, serving the most superbly cooked and presented food at ridiculously low prices from a surprisingly wide menu. Service is very good too. The wine is very good and, unusually for some restaurants in the area, reasonably priced at around £8 a bottle (we paid £20 for house wine in a place along the same street.)

The coffee and the ambience here are both terrific. There are photographs on the walls of the owner in his younger days in military uniform and, after our third visit in as many days, he began to talk to us. Does great bottled beer in the evening.

Stayed here in May 2006. It was exceptional value, very clean and comfortable, offered a pretty good hot buffet start to the day and the staff were very friendly. It doesn't get much better. Ten minutes walk from the centrum but why go there when you are in the heart of Kazimierz.
