It is a long time since I was there, but I stayed in the Shepherd Hotel for part of the time. And then a hotel on the south of the Nile, next to the American Embassy on the road to Giza.

One thing about Cairo that I can say with utter confidence - trust the Egyptian police with your life. When I was there, they were some of the very best in the world - and honest.
