    The London House, Eccleshall

Posted by Worldtraveller 17 September 2007

The London House is quite unlike any Indian Restaurant I've ever been to.

It's situated in the large village of Eccleshall about six miles from Stafford. From the outside it's a beautiful old double fronted building; inside it's modern, light and airy.

There is an extensive menu with many house specialities. The staff are lovely, always welcoming and friendly. Despite its rural location, it is always busy. It's worth a trip!

    Eccleshall near Stafford.

    Mt Cook Helicopter flights

Posted by Worldtraveller 2 September 2007

For a real treat, take a helicopter flight over Mt Cook with the Helicopter Line. The company have various flight options and most include a 'drop down' on to a snowfield for a short walk. You need good weather, but if it is sunny, the views are spectacular.

    Paihia Pacific Resort

Posted by Worldtraveller 1 September 2007

This friendly hotel is built up a hillside in Paihia. The rooms are large and some are split-level. Great staff. While in Paihia, take the mini-cruise to Russell, the original capital of New Zealand. Lots of historic buildings, but little tourist tat.

Great pizzas and pasta. It's a very busy restaurant and you have to be prepared to share a table with other diners as soon as places become available. However, as a result you do get to meet people and hear other travellers' tales.

    Guided nature walks

Posted by Worldtraveller 1 September 2007

NZ Walks organise a variety of guided walks at various levels of difficulty. We did the 10 mile Mt. Aspiring National Park walk in a very small group with an excellent guide who carried our lunch! Pick up from various hotels in Queenstown.

Fairwinds is a fabulous small hotel in the village of Carrbridge. Informal and friendly; Alison and Lindsay are excellent hosts. You eat in the conservatory from where you can watch red squirrels feeding. Evening meals, usually chosen from a choice of three items in each part of the menu, and are always superb.

This excellent small hotel used to be Beatrix Potter's holiday home. It is just down the road from Hill Top and overlooks Esthwaite water. There are lovely lounges to relax in or many walks to do from the door. Richard, the owner, is the chef and he produces superb, innovative meals.

Eat at the Oystercatcher for 'fine' dining in an informal atmosphere or at the Mad Crab for wonderful sunsets over the bay. For accommodation avoid the Capt. Whidbey Inn which is overpriced and very 'tired' and stay at the Anchorage Inn. Great breakfasts and Dave and Dianne are lovely hosts. A 5 minute drive from Coupeville takes you to Ebey's Landing where you can beach walk for miles looking out across the Pacific and encounter no one. Brilliant even when the fog comes in.
