Posted by deirdrenoseck 12 February 2008

I had my b-day last year at Hideaway and it was a blast! They serve there many delicious pizzas and the dancefloor is simply amazing! I just loved that place!

    Devassa Ipanema

Posted by deirdrenoseck 6 December 2007

Don't know how these guys do it, but they brew their beer to absolute perfection!

I saw a bunch of these pubs spread all over town when I was down in Brazil, and they all seemed to have a pretty faithful clientele.

We ended up hitting the Ipanema spot most the time, and two of those times we closed the place down! That good!

    Hoca tour in Rio

Posted by deirdrenoseck 6 December 2007

Hoca Tour is an amazing trails company. I am a backpacker and most of my trips are planned in search of adventure. When I was last in Rio I stayed at a hostel located in Copacabana, which is a neighbourhood close by the beach.

I asked the people who worked there if they knew of any activities that could be done by daytime, so they showed me a guide named Rio For Partiers. This was an easy to understand guide with lots of information on what to do in the city and the surrounding places. Me and my boyfriend did many of the ones listed, but the one we enjoyed the most was the Hoca Tour service, which takes you through dirt roads, open roads, sand dunes, rivers, waterfalls, oceans and many beautiful sights.

The driver, Horacio, is very friendly too, and he has a lot of information on that area. We both had a really good time and we hope to come back again.

    Zero Zero (00)

Posted by deirdrenoseck 4 December 2007

This place is awesome, and so is the food. This was one of our first dinner stops and we still have fond memories of it.

But the cuisine is just the first chapter of the house, the other side of the thing is a great night! The cool and trendy DJs spin the latest e-music hits, while a crowd of young and beautiful people makes things even more interesting. Should you come down to Rio, give it a try. Zero Zero is located in Gávea, near the Planetarium.

    Galdino Campos Clinic

Posted by deirdrenoseck 4 December 2007

An amazing medical clinic that is experienced in dealing with foreigners. For some dumb reason, I caught flu during my stay in Rio and things got worse from there. I had a high temperature and was feeling really sick. Thankfully, I was with a group of friends who contacted the hotel service requesting medical assistance. They met my needs right away, and even came by the hotel to pick me up - and that's good service.

I had to spend the night at the Galdino Campos clinic, but I wasn't complaining. Anything's better than being sick while away from home, especially when the medical attention you're receiving is good. I wasn't counting on being sick, but should you find yourself in a similar situation, look this clinic up. They work with many foreigners, and therefore have English, French and Spanish speakers, which certainly makes things a lot easier.

    Azul Marinho

Posted by deirdrenoseck 4 December 2007

I'm absolutely crazy for Brazilian food and I've been around the country to enjoy all types of different dishes, from carne de sol (sundried meat) to feijoada carioca (black bean stew with meat).

One of my all-time favorites, though, is moqueca de camarao, a stew made from shrimps and coconut milk. It's a typical dish that originates from Bahia, but you can find it in Rio, in an excellent restaurant called Azul Marinho. It's right at the Arpoador in Ipanema, so you'll be privileged with a breathtaking view while eating this amazing food!
