    The Restaurant at Parasporos

    Posted by djak 4 June 2009

    Tucked into a secluded corner of beautiful Parasporos beach, is a rare treat. A restaurant serving top quality international and Greek dishes sourced entirely from local produce. The menu changes seemingly daily, (at least it did every time we visited), so there is always something for even the most jaded of palates, and with the wide selection of beers and wines it's easy to spend the whole afternoon eating, whilst drinking in the view of the sea as it laps at the edge of the beach, mere feet away.
    Shirley Valentine would love it!

    To the side of the big beach bar at the northern end of Parasporos Beach approx 2km from Parikia.
    Either go by foot along the road to the airport and take the turning for Delphini beach, and keep going alomg the track for another 500m or so, or take a cab (about 5 euro from Parikia)

    Festival of the Panagia

    Posted by djak 12 June 2006

    If you are on Paros in August don’t miss the festival on the 15th, when everyone with anything vaguely seaworthy heads out into the bay armed with flares and fireworks for the Festival of the Panagia.

    Paros

    Posted by djak 10 June 2006

    An island with something for everyone; cool, cosmopolitan Naoussa, with its bustling nightlife and beautiful warren of twisting, quintessentially Greek streets; picturesque Lefkes tucked into a valley in the mountains; and countless tiny villages dotted around a coastline that is blessed with some of the best beaches in Greece.

    Even Parikia, the once rather grotty port town, is re-emerging from its downmarket past and can't be beaten as the place to watch the sun slowly sink into the beautiful blue waters of the Aegean.

    Between three and five hours (or even longer if you take a G.A ferry) from Athens by sea, or half an hour by plane;

    Old style taverna in the once run down but newly trendy area of Exarchia. Don't expect sophistication, this is simple traditional Greek food chosen by the time-honoured method of pointing at it behind the counter.

    Do expect however, a complete cross section of Greek society - from business men in suits to students to society kids from nearby Kolonaki - wonderful food, and a sense of the "real" Athens. A word of warning though, make sure you visit the toilet before you go as they too are of an authentic Greek nature.

    Expect to pay no more than 10 euro a head for salad, main course and a beer.
