    Prague Fleamarket

Posted by encantada 1 October 2009

Prague's only real fleamarket 'Bleší trh' happens every Saturday morning in Kolbenova (beside Kolbenova metro).

A huge sprawling outdoor market, you'll find broken electronics, piles of clothes, paintings, communist items, furniture, jugs, quirky souvenirs, jewellery, and the odd amazing antique find for a Czech price.

It's 20 czk you pay in at the turnstile (under a euro) and well worth the finds.

Get there early (7am-2pm) and bring a phrase book so you can haggle with Czech prices. Don't expect English.

There's also plenty of sausage stalls and trailer-bars when you want to stop for a beer (pivo).

Stayed in this Rome apartment (with "Bed&Breakfast" stocked fridge) in San Giovanni. Family run, very nice patio and style, good price and a quiet location. 80 Euro per night.

The epitome of kitsch, this great little bar has glittery red walls, an array of vintage hairdressing tools and salon furniture, with cute locals and a DJ every now and then with alternative and indie rock. The best part is the manicure and a cocktail offer (was $10). Getting a manicure in Beauty Bar is not a novelty feature - it really lasted!

Nearest subway is Union Square, 14th street between 3rd ave and ave A.

Really nice two-bedroom apartment with sofabed and balcony, beside the Sant Antoni food market, a walk into Raval. Bars recommended on Joaquim Costa street for a hipster bar crawl - Benidorm, Betty Fords, etc.

This place is super central and the best price/quality of any apartment you'll find in Barcelona.

For Barcelona events, gigs, news, art and clubs grab any of the following three:

BCNWEEK, a witty free paper with cultural reviews and listings.

BUTXACA, a small free listings booklet for almost everything in Barcelona, or

MUNDO SONORO (free, comes out first thursday every month) a thick monthly music bible with music reviews and of course, gig listings.

For a good city map, city and beach guide, airport transfer info. and apartments check out:

These publications are found lurking in the doorway of any given Barcelona bar, record or clothing store in the centre of town (most likely in Raval or Gotico).
