The creator of the 'New Look''s house and museum is perched on the top of cliffs in this Cotentin town, with an ever-changing visually-stunning exhibition, but the real gem is the perfume garden in which iconic fragrances in leafy, hidden corners can be guessed and enjoyed before a vertiginous descent down crumbling steps to the wide promenade and vast beach. There, every year we take a stroll to the casino and then back up equally steep steps to the ancient old town, with its citadel, drawbridge, quaint creperies and local art galleries. Granville has so many faces - from working port to high fashion, from ancient streets to salt-water swimming pools, surrounded on three sides by Atlantic sea, that we never tire of it.
