    Gablerbrau Hotel

Posted by graceg 10 February 2007

My husband and stayed at the Gablerbrau in December 06 and we were delighted with the hotel. Rooms are simple but very comfortable, clean and relaxing after a tough day on the cobbles. We usually prefer to dine away from our hotel when on holidays but the Gablerbrau's restaurant is great - very popular with locals also. The bar is a great spot to watch people come and go.

The location is excellent also, situated over the bridge from the old town. The bathroom was spacious and very modern with a great big sink and a pull-out face mirror.

Overall great value (there was no mini-bar in the room but who would use a mini-bar with such great beer on tap downstairs? there is also a beer vending machine on each floor) and heartily recommended.

    Porticos

Posted by graceg 16 September 2005

Turin has so many variations on these grand covered walkways that you'll never tire of discovering more. Some might be a bit on the lived-in grubby side, but so many are huge, vaulted and decorated spaces providing the perfect catwalk for the refined Torinese to browse second hand books and antique liberty prints on a Sunday morning stroll. In short, Turin has lovely architectural delights by the bagful.

Via Roma's porticos are home to designer shops and boutiques, walk the length of Via Po's for bookshops and quirky antiques, and Piazza San Carlo's for restaurants and bars - don't miss a peak into sumptuous San Carlo cafe for its gold leafed and mirrored interior.

    Nachana Haveli

Posted by graceg 15 October 2005

A budget heritage hotel. Our tour organiser had booked us into Rajasthan's luxury heritage hotels, but we tired a little of the formula. This one, we booked ourselves and were more than happy with. It has a lovely secluded courtyard and an excellent rooftop restaurant where we dined every night. The hotel is small, comfortable and full of character.

Perfectly positioned at the gates to the old town. Address: Goverdhan Chowk, 345 001 Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
price: Rs900-1,500. Suites Rs2,100. Plus 10% tax. Peak season: October-March.
