    Wally's Backpackers

Posted by hcac 14 September 2008

This place was hard to find, at least later at night and in my state of mind, but it is a clean, stylish and a welcoming hostel with very reasonable rates. Since he seems to screen his guests a bit, it's also quiet and better for the more mature budget traveller which is exactly what I needed. I can't thank them enough for a real bed, comforter, and my two best nights of sleep in weeks.

Kaikoura Food Company and Fudge Factory

Posted by hcac 14 September 2008

Despite a sort of funny name, this place surprised me. Out of all the food I've eaten in New Zealand over a two month period, only this one has struck me as a place where they care about the food they make and it's presentation and I made sure to let them know. I had their interpretation of eggs benedict for a brunch time offering and it was outstanding. Two perfectly poached eggs on grilled ciabatta bread with wilted spinach and hollandaise.

    Skibo House B&B

Posted by hcac 14 September 2008

A warm and cosy homelike B&B at nearly hostel rates! What more can you ask for? Well, a sauna and a spa and a couple of great house cats to top off the great breakfasts!

It's actually in the town of Methven so it's convenient for skiing and snowboarding Mt.Hutt.
