A Gray Line bus tour, this allows you to spend a day away from the city in quaint and quiet Cape Cod. You get to stop at a great seafood restaurant and spend some time in Hyannis, where I recommend the crazy golf!
Another good day out is to catch the train to Salem to see all the tacky witch museums. It's hilarious how proud they are that they executed lots of innocent girls.

Recently refurbished, this is one of London's best museums. It has huge displays on such topics as the history of cruising and interactive exhibits like the ferry piloting simulator. The cafe round the back is rather nice too. A walk across the road will take you into the old naval college, whose chapel has a superb painted ceiling.

Large and airy, this hostel is in an old textile warehouse. It is in a great location for exploring the city centre by day and the Northern Quarter bars by night. Some of these drinking holes are quite difficult to spot, so sign up for the bar crawl, if you don't mind Australians.

Great restaurant - better to go here and sit in the tiled dining room, with Iberian hams hanging up and lobsters and fish on ice, than to take your chances out on a terrace where you never really know what you're going to get. The fish soup was the best I have tasted, and the grilled fish was fresh and succulent.

A good way to get to Tallinn or Stockholm - much greener than flying. Lots of services, and all ferry terminals are walking distance to city centre accommodation. However, you should book a cabin if doing the overnight ferry trip to Stockholm, as the bars, cafes and clubs are terrible, and there is nowhere quiet for you to sleep in a chair.

A hilarious walking tour of the Old Town. If you're lucky you will get the guide who took us on a leisurely stroll, stopping off to play us his djembe drum in the park, and to buy some sandwiches. He didn't try to tell us too much, giving us a chance to meet the others on the tour.
