Fantastic bustling seaside town, just a few miles from San Sebastian, that has something for everyone.
Mile long sandy beach for families and great surfing. Beach is spotlessly clean and there are Red Cross Lifeguards all along the beach keeping everyone safe. Places to hire surfboards and surf schools.
Dozens of beach bars and restaurants along the promenade and a great town centre where the competition among the pintxo (basque tapas) bars ensures great quality and choice. A stroll along the promenade then grazing from bar to bar along with thousands of others is the evenings entertainment.
Karlos Arguinano is a TV chef with a stunning restaurant almost on the beach and with great views of the sunset.
Ideal for a day out if staying in San Sebastian or less than hour from Biarritz!
Beach all day - bars all night - stunning sunsets - perfect holiday

Fantastic new museum, opened June 2011, showcasing the talent of legendary haute couturier Cristobel Balenciaga. Stunning collection of dresses and outfits, presented by styles (day, cocktail, evening & wedding) from his first designs whilst working in San Sebastian in the 1940's through to the early 1970's.
Walking distance from the fishing port of Getaria via a moving staircase. Getaria is about 15 miles from San Sebastian and has a great selection of fish restaurants serving fish almost straight from the boats.

Two fantastic traditional pubs only 100 yards apart on the edge of the city centre.
Both serve a great range of real ales, have unspoilt interiors, friendly staff and packed with locals and visitors.
Tetleys in the Swan is magnificent and the Fred Trueman in the Slip a fantastic bitter.
Just beer (and wine) - no food

300 steps to the top of the tower - worth it for the stunning view over the city. Only costs €1.5. Great for getting your bearings
Just off Marienplatz @ Rindermarkt
Factory tour is really interesting. The robots are almost balletic. Couple of tours a day in English. Lasts two hours and costs €12.
Museum is top quality for lovers of BMW cars and bikes.
Upmarket renovated pub in city centre right next to the Theatre Royal. Excellent but not cheap food, decent choice of beers and good wine list. Set menu at lunch is good value. So close to the theatre the bell rings in the bar!

Restaurant selling huge quantities of mussels. Might look like a tourist trap but continues to attract locals in large numbers.
Moules frites cooked four or five different ways at sensible prices. Service brisk and pretty friendly towards visitors.
Located on a main shopping street opposite Galeries Lafeyette.

Super italian restaurant in the very heart of Lille. Hidden away behind the main shopping street and doesn't look much from outside. Inside though is an atmospheric wood-panelled, friendly (even to English speakers) restaurant. Straight-forward, reasonably priced Italian menu.
Clearly a favourite of locals at both lunch and dinner. Makes a nice change from the tourist-orientated places.

Has the unlikely billing of the Belgian St Tropez, but you can see why. A lovely long sandy beach combined with posh shops and hotels creates a posers paradise. Unbelievably busy in the summer and on sunny weekends but outside of these times a fantastic place to stroll about and plenty of well positioned bars and cafes to people watch and – my god - there are people to watch.
Only an hour or so from the tunnel and is a real alternative to the likes of Le touquet & Deauville. If staying in Bruges worth a trip to the coast.

Fantastic seafood and fish restaurant on the quayside at Blankeberge. Sells lobsters, mussels and oysters in huge quantities. Not cheap but fantastic quality and you can even convince yourself that the plateau de fruits de mer with a bottle of Moët at €100 for two is a justifiable holiday treat.
No frills setting with plenty of outdoor tables for when the sun does shine.

Outstanding fish restaurant in Antwerp - pretty central location on Marnixplatz. Simple no nonsense setting with a wide range of fresh fish. Menu changes daily and is displayed in Flemish on blackboards. Don't worry though, the young staff will translate everything.
Reasonably priced food and drink. Booking is a must. We went on a Tuesday evening and it was packed.
