Iberotel palace in Sharm El Sheikh, absolutely loved it. Not the cheapest hotel, but it has a gorgeous swimming pool and a really good selection of restaurants.

    Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Posted by jvmills 24 January 2008

A good old fashioned seaside day out! Fish and chips and loads of fairground rides. Never mind your Costa del Sol!

The rides are all good fun, especially 'The Big One', and all cost around £1-2 each. Or you can get a £30 day pass.

The nearest train station is Blackpool North. You can get special promotions on buses and trams - www.nationalrail.co.uk/promotions/e05830eec35ce741007a2e79203d5296.html

    There's even an airport: www.ukairportinformation.com/APT-16-Blackpool_Airport.htm

    Diving in the red sea

Posted by jvmills 26 November 2007

The Red Sea is one of the most colourful diving environments - loads of reefs and coral formations, plus for beginners there is a 'sunken statue' at Hurghada. Rent somewhere near Sahl Hasheesh for the statue dive.

    Rethymno

Posted by jvmills 16 August 2007

Rethymno has a gorgeous harbour and great Italian-looking architecture. It's situated on Crete so loads to do - looking around Knossos (the Minotaur etc) is a good day out. Try getting a cheap local rental cottage rather than stay at the big touristy resorts.

    Maracajau, Natal

Maracajaú is a gorgeous, peaceful village on the coast. Fantastic diving - white beaches and Brazil's largest coral reef. Fab. And cheaper than the Caribbean.

    Lake Garda

Posted by jvmills 19 June 2007

Lake Garda is great for water sports, and is near to Milan and Verona (Romeo and Juliet, you star crossed lovers out there).

Also, you can go skiing in the Dolomites (about an hour and a half away).
